Heads Up Hermitage — Whataburger Is Finally Back in Tennessee

Diners in Hermitage, prepare for drive-thru late-night cheeseburgers, taquitos, and honey butter chicken biscuits as even more orange and white splashes across the Volunteer state

The Nashville area gets its first Whataburger of many to come this week, when the new Hermitage restaurant opens on Wednesday, January 5 at 11 a.m.

The first new drive-thru and dine-in fast-food restaurant in the area is located at 5055 Old Hickory Blvd in eastern Davidson County’s Hermitage. The cult-favorite Texas-based brand’s well-known menu ranges from breakfast all day to traditional burger joint options — with customizable burgers, honey barbecue chicken strip sandwiches, and honey butter chicken biscuits, plus plenty of fries with spicy and fancy ketchup for dipping.

Decades ago, Whataburger had a few locations in Tennessee, but residents have long waited for the return of the popular drive-thru burger chain. Many Whataburger aficionados had their breakfast taquito and fancy ketchup-slathered cheeseburger dreams shattered back in 2017 when job postings online proved false, but the brand assures that Nashvillians will have eight locations of the burger joint within the coming year (but note that none of them appear to be located inside Nashville city limits).

Sponsorships and celebration events are in the works with local sports teams including the Tennessee Titans and the Nashville Sounds, too, according to Titans Sr. Vice President, Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer Gil Beverly.

The remaining seven Whataburgers that will pepper Middle Tennessee before year’s end will be located at:

  • 1123 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, 37066 (early 2022)
  • 1835 Old Fort Parkway, Murfreesboro, 37129 (mid-2022)
  • 450 TN-109, Lebanon, 37090 (mid-2022)
  • 630 S Cumberland St, Lebanon, 37087 (fall 2022)
  • 1715 Gallatin Pike N, Madison, 37115 (fall 2022)
  • 360 W Sam Ridley Pkwy, Smyrna, 37167 (fall 2022)
  • 11190 Lebanon Rd, Mt. Juliet, 37122 (fall 2022)

Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger in 1950 down in Corpus Christi, and it’s grown to now over 870 locations across Texas and 13 other states. Most all locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
