Heat Press Mistake? How to Clean Your Heat Press

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 A few weeks back I was heat pressing during a Facebook Live and clearly only half paying attention when I pressed my heat transfer to the top platen of my heat press instead of the shirt...DUH! heat press, heat press machine, heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press Needless to say this left a big ol' mess...and my heat press was in serious need of some cleaning! heat press, heat press machine, heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press I thought...maybe after my press cools the printable heat transfer remnants will come off on the next press OR maybe they'll just miraculously stay there and never bother anyone. WRONG and WRONG! heat press machine, heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress So I do what I do and I hit up Amazon in search of a heat press cleaner and found this Ez-Off iron cleaner which promises to clean your iron. https://amzn.to/2AXJyw9 I figured I'd try it - so I bought a tube of it. To work this stuff needs to go on a hot heat press so I re-heated my heat press....and hoped for the best. heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine When it was around 350 degrees I squeezed a big ol' glob on an old polo shirt. The manufacturer recommends a towel...but I didn't have any I was willing to sacrifice (meantime my donation clothes pile is overflowing). I picked the polo shirt because there's some grit to the fabric. heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine, heatpress machine I started rubbing the Ez-Off in a circular motion onto the area where my big heat press mistake took place. t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine, heatpress machine, heat pressing machine Nothing was happening except some smoke and my shirt was turning brown (burning, I assume?) What would you do? I squeezed more goop on there and rubbed more... At this point I can't really decide if I'm just seeing through hopeful glasses that it's coming off or if it's actually being removed. So I rubbed harder. And added more Ez-Off cream. heat press machine, heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress Then it happened! It was off...I think...unless I looked at the exact right angle I couldn't see my heat press mistake any more. Plus my shirt was all brown at this point so I figured something HAD to have come off. So I used the only small part of the shirt that wasn't gooped and brown to wipe off any remaining cream from the top platen. heat press vinyl, heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine Just to be sure and test how clean the top platen was, I put a white shirt on the heat press and directly pressed it for 30 seconds. heat press nation, t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine, heatpress machine Guess what...NOTHING transferred to my shirt. This EZ-Off heat press cleaner is like a miracle cream! t shirt heat press heat press, heatpress, heat press machine, heatpress machine, heat pressing machine Note: This post may contain affiliate links.
