Hello how old do you think is Shigaraki?

Short Answer: Completely a guess, early 20s. I’ll say 21.

He’s clearly older than the UA kids, and considers Toga, who seems to be high schooler, to be a brat. Drinking age in Japan is 20, and we’ve seen him with drinks that we assume are alcoholic in Kurogiri’s bar. tho in smash he drinks only ginger ale apparently From what I’ve read among Japanese fans, most agree he’s college student age, so again, early 20s.

I’ve actually written an possible equation to calculate Shigaraki’s age in this post here, but to recap:

Shigaraki’s Age = [(Current Age of All Might - Age of All Might when Nana Shimura put her child into foster care) + Age of Nana’s Child when he was put into foster care] - (Age of Shigaraki’s Dad when he had Tenko)

As for finding the numbers to put into the equation…

All Might was 18 when Nana Shimura died, then left for America for college after he graduated UA the next year, so that’s at least 4 years overseas before he returned to Japan. We’ll assume that he was 23 when he made his debut in Japan, and that he was so popular and successful he became Number 1 within a year, age 24.

Afterwards, Endeavor comes onto the Hero scene. He stated himself that he was 20 when he became Number 2 Hero, as All Might was already Number 1, and implied to have been for a while. So I think it’s safe to say All Might is older than Endeavor, tho they seem to be in the same-ish generation. Endeavor is canonically 45 years old now, then perhaps All Might is currently in his 50s. We’ll go with 55. Nice middle number, seems fitting, makes him old, but not too old, he’s still in okay shape, even with his injuries. Brad Pitt and Michelle Obama are 55 years old and they look great

Judging by his school uniform when he speaks with Nana Shimura for the first time, All Might seems to be in junior high, making him a teenager. (Much like when Midoriya first meets All Might). Only just a few year later, he’s 18 when Nana Shimura dies, and by then her kid was already in foster care. The way he and Gran Torino talks about Nana Shimura giving up her family to keep fighting All for One, feels like they were present when Nana made that difficult decision. Let’s say he was 16 when that happened.

This means 39 years have past since Nana gave up her child.

How old was her kid then? The little silhouette we see in Chapter 95 when all this business was revealed, makes them looks like a little boy. The fact she sought foster care means the kid wasn’t old enough to be on his own either.

Here’s where I go a bit wild with some assumptions.

The world of MHA supposedly takes place in the future, but for all intents and purposes, the setting is modeled very much after modern today Japan, so we’ll hold that that’s true for Japanese family law. From my research, adoptions of unrelated children is not that common in Japan, as the focus is on family and blood relations. When they do get adopted, if they’re younger than 6 years old, their family name could be changed to the adoptive parents’. If they’re older than 6, they keep their family name, their biological parents will be listed in the records.

When All For One found Tenko, he calls the boy ‘Tenko Shimura’. From this we assume that 1) Nana’s child is a boy (that’s actually never specified, I think) 2) He kept his family name and was able to pass it on to Tenko.

(This is also why we assume the hand Shigaraki calls ‘father’ is the hand of Nana’s kid, and Shigaraki accidentally killed him with his quirk)

Basically, all this to say, Nana’s Kid/Shigaraki’s Dad was maybe 6-years-old when he entered the system.

39 + 6 gives us 45, the age Nana’s Kid would be in the current setting, if he was alive.

Using the ages of the UA kid’s dads and subtracting the age of their kid, we get how old the dads were when they had their first kid. It seems the average age is 25. So we’re going to say that Shigaraki’s Dad had him at age 25. Shigaraki was born 20 years ago.

Using alllllll this, I’ve calculated that Shigaraki is 20 years old.

He’s relatively young! And fits his character. An adult, but still teenager-ish, inexperienced as a criminal mastermind but ready to stand on his on as well.

This is al speculation tho. And with the equation, you can plug in the numbers as you see fit. That can get us ages anywhere from 17 to 29.

Yep. 20/21 is how old I think Shigaraki is, from intuition and uhhhh if this counts as correct data-based math. Thanks for staying with me throughout this whole thing!
