Last edited by macelharen; 3 Nov, 2019 @ 11:13pm #1 bajo jajo View Profile View Posts 3 Nov, 2019 @ 11:00pm ive been alive for a month and didnt wash my stuff once. it only matters how clean your apparel is when you get injured. as for good weapons to kill, just find an axe or crowbar. from build 41 on, never take on more than 2 zombies, get them to follow you and keep backsteping while pushing them to ground. i always like to finish them with equipped weapon hits so i level up its skill, but never swing it because of vulnerability period after attack. use windows to kill very big groups, position yourself behind one and just keep one tapping anything that climbs through. ive killed 10 plus crowds like this. what you are doing largely depends on what you want to have in future. i would say dont worry too much and play around with game, you dont need to discover all metas to enjoy it. just make sure you are self sustainable and have good carpentry skills to survive longer. also consider leaving cities once you got a car or if you prefer more action then just stay at your shelter and fortify it.and for last, there are fights you must have, and there are some that you dont need to do. zombie problem? get a gun and lure them far away into woods, or with a police car's siren. #2 macelharen View Profile View Posts 3 Nov, 2019 @ 11:15pm okay, cool. uhm...i got a scratch infected. do i just keep changing bandages or do i need to also "wash yourself" at a sink? i know there's disinfectant we can find but i don't have any on me...i assume i can just ignore the infection as long as i keep switching the bandages #3 Red View Profile View Posts 3 Nov, 2019 @ 11:32pm You can wash bandages by removing them and right clicking on them, you can only do it if you have a bottle filled with water though. #4 Saxon View Profile View Posts 3 Nov, 2019 @ 11:54pm Your meals will cause your character to become bored/unhappy at low cooking skills. A good way to raise your cooking skill with low effort is to simply watch the TV while the power is still up. There is a channel called "Life and Living" which will raise your cooking level by multiple levels as well as carpentry, foraging, trapping and fishing. These are all pretty important skills later on so I encourage you to watch this channel whenever it it safe to do so. The transmissions will stop after the fall of civilization within about 3 weeks. If you cook a bland tasting item such as pasta you need to add some peper or salt. A lot of it is common sense stuff, but not everything. Make sure to read the cooking section on the wiki. It helped me make the most out of my meals and to judge which cooking implements to loot:https://pzwiki.net/wiki/CookingCleaning your character is a lot easier than cleaning your clothes. All you need is a nearby water source. However clothes require soap.Soap is very rare and this is made worse by the fact that your character needs at least multiple bars of soap to clean his/her full gear which seems a bit unrealistic. I assume that the programmer entered a wrong number somewhere and that this will be corrected later. There is a mod on the workshop that increases the spawn rate of soap which helps a bit until the devs get around to balancing it. The washing machines in the game are working now and I use those as much as possible while I still can while I stockpile soap for later. They are VERY noisy, so beware! You can reactivate them with a generator if the power goes out. However as soon as the water is disconnected they become permanently useless. Note that washing makes clothes wet, but they seem to dry within only a few hours. I'm not sure if a dish towel can be used to dry your character, but bath towels do work. However you dry so fast that I wouldn't worry about it unless your character is cold and wet at the same time.I run around bloodied and/or dirty most of the time. And I've survived my first month without noticing any negative effects. Being dirty doesn't seem to cause my food to become contaminated while cooking and it isn't causing me to become sick. However if you have wounds they will become easily infected when dirty. Being clean and wiping the wound area with alcohol wipes or sterilized bandages helps to prevent infection. Zombie blood doesn't seem to transfer the zombie virus even when you are completely drenched in it with open wounds.Axes, machettes, katanas, etc are awesome but break very fast so I simply enjoy them for the short time they last. I actually prefer to not use axes on zombies because I want the save their durability for wood cutting, but that depends on your playstyle. I've learned to rely mostly on metal and lead pipes for combat. They are OK as weapons and abundant in the game world. Especially once you start training your metal working skill you will end up with loads of them. And of course antibiotics, but if you have those, you probably have disinfectant and/or antiseptic wipes. Check ambulances, doctor offices, veterinarians and dentists for good medical gear. Fire station is good too. Be careful with that, I'd keep real good tabs on that bandage for the duration of the infection, keep it clean, and stay fed. It can turn into a fever, which will then kill you if you don't stay at full green "stuffed moodle" food level and stay in bed as much as you can for the entire duration. God forbid a zombie apocalypse happens while you have that going on.Washing is a brand new mechanic, I'm not sure how fleshed out it is yet, but knowing this dev team like I do, you can rest assured, eventually everything you think matters, will.As for food strategies, it's important. For me day 1 is about getting as close to a grocery store as I can. As soon as I'm able to breach I throw every spoilable food item (marked "fresh" for example) into a *freezer* (not fridge) for later gathering, that'll tack on a little time before it spoils.Get crops in the ground somewhere away from any foot traffic early. Don't kill zombies near crops, blood spatter fouls the earth, and walking on them supposedly lowers yield as well. 15 day growth cycle on cabbage but it spoils very fast. Also radishes for skill building only or luxury food later, a harvest yields a lot, but they're only worth three food each. You don't skill until you harvest so you'll have time to read the book later. Get any other crops you have in the ground then too, some take like a month. No need to use all seeds in a pack at once, you'll probably screw it up, but it's there JIC rain is your friend that month, or you are somehow able to babysit the water and growth levels that early. Also only eat your non-perishable when there is no fresh available. Cans last forever. Meat, dairy, bread, and produce not so much. Use your fresh in every way you can, slice it dice it, put it in pasta, rice, frying pans, pots, cook meats before cooking them again in a dish, all to maximize cooking gains. After just a few skill points it's entirely possible to build five ingredient dishes that provide over 100 food value after cooking. Also watch life and living on TV during the first week at six am every day for the cooking show. (also noon for carpentry, and six pm for assorted survival skills)To keep food happy never use the same ingredient more than twice and add seasonings like pepper, mustard, or that funky English not-quite-pasta-sauce they've included in the game, "bolognese", or "remoulade". Save some salt for the off chance you somehow gather all the crap to bake with. You'll miss bread when it's gone.Food gets a bit complicated... Or you could just run around on chips and go out in BLAZE OF GLORY tm. There's always that.Wetness was indicated by a red moodle (status effect in top right corner) showing raindrops (because you got wet in the rain). Either towel could then be used to dry you off. Clothing changes in the most recent builds add other features that create new systems on top of the old that don't intuitively mesh yet. (like soggy clothes that need to be laid out or dried in a dryer that may or may not affect your wetness eventually.) It might change a little eventually to better integrate both systems.Stabbing as far as I can tell has gone the way of the dodo in build 41, that or it requires more skill than I have. B41 spears can stab at range, but knives don't seem to be working like they used to for me. If you're in build 40, butter knives, pens and pencils, etc (hell probably even spoons and forks) will give you a one shot stab. For more you'll need a kitchen knife, screwdriver, or hunting knife. Edit: I too have a hard time aiming. Still. I've been at this game for nearly a decade. Still can't hit a zombie coming from top of the screen. Ever. You'll learn which angles to never engage at, or like me, you won't. ;-) I sure hope they give this issue a look in this current combat pass. /eAs for what you worry about? Are you having fun? Then that's what you should worry about. As I pointed out, you could ignore farming and cooking altogether and just run and gun 'til you die, on just chips and soda. You'd run out eventually I suppose, but it'd take a while, and for some folks, that's fun. Me, I collect CDs. Useless AND fun. Someday I'll get one of those CD players going... someday. You pretty much can gain up to +25 happiness per bowl, cooking level and it might even be faster to make a bowl of fruit salad than eating 6 berries one at a time. I don't have any points in cooking level and I have had bad luck since I havent found expert cooking book. Even tho I haven't found it I still have gained around 1000xp into the level 7... with cook book I would be finishing level 8 already :) #7 Goffy View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 8:04am Just know that dying is part of the game and each time you die you should ask yourself what could i of done in that situation to live there. On topic though if you do find soap im pretty sure it has infinite uses but you can chuck dirty or bloody clothes in washing machines that don't even need soap currently and turn them on and they will become clean, this is assuming you have power on or a generator.Stabbing weapons have been mega nerfed its never worth using them in a 2v1 scenario due to the animation being so slow now if you are this new to the game i'd suggest you try make spears which is any object thats like a kitchen knife + a plank or stick.I suggest using the debug mode to spawn in some weapons you wanna try out on a new save and just practice using them in combat until you get the hang of them too.The aiming system was clunky for me at first too in the new build but you do get the hang of it and the aiming reticle does help with it somewhat the debug mode is a really good tool for just trying to get used to that kinda thing. #8 Death View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 8:07am

No, soap does not have infinite uses. #9 Plague, M.D. View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 8:22am build 41 has increased soap spawns, increases the amount of clothing cleaned by soap, and also requires soap to use washing machines. cleaning detergent works now too i believe. #10 JohnRando View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 9:10am About that infected scratch, using sterilized bandages can help fight it off or avoid it in the first place ; you can sterilize bandages with alcohol, bottle of disinfectant, or simply with a cooking pot of water (much easier) ! #11 NotReally View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 9:20am

Wait, really? washing machine uses soap or cleaning detergent now? #12 Septimus View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 10:10am about the washing machine part after the water stop (+- 3 weeks) just build a Rain Barrel 1 tile above plus 1 tile behind the washing machine, using a wrench rigth click the washing machine and press "plumb" and just wait to rain to "infinite" water again:) of course dont forget the generator #13 Death View Profile View Posts 4 Nov, 2019 @ 12:13pm
