States around New England are getting into their Patriots’ Day traditions. Regionally, Militia and Minutemen actors are dusting off their colonial attire. And here in Boston, marathon participants are about to start this year's big race.

All this is to commemorate the first battles of the American Revolutionary War that were fought on our soil 247 years ago.

Though history textbooks list April 19 as the actual day worth remembering, over time some state governments have designated the third Monday of April as the day to take off.

Here’s a list of places that will be open and closed on Monday, April 18:

Federal offices: Open.

Federal courts: Open.

Post offices: Open.

State offices: Closed.

RMV: Closed.

State courts: Closed.

Municipal offices: Closed.

Public schools: Closed.

Libraries: Closed.

Trash pickup: Trash and recycling pickup at Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Allston, Brighton, parts of Roslindale, West Roxbury, East Boston will be delayed one day. Check your town or city to see if the usual trash schedule was altered.

Banks: Open. The Mass. Bankers Association encourages you to check your local branch for special hours.

Stock market: Open.

Retail locations: Open.

Liquor stores: Open.

Supermarkets: Open.

MBTA: All modes will run on a weekday schedule. Copley station on the Green Line is closed all day. Green Line stops at South Street, Kent Street and St. Mary's Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
