Why Britons have turned against the Duchess of Sussex
From the time when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were first rumoured to be together to when they finally decided to make the royal exit, not many people, especially the Brits, seem too happy about it. Whether one likes it or not, the Duchess of Sussex has surely received a lot of popularity – good or bad – for the stances she has taken in the recent years. Besides the extreme public backlash and the continuous tabloid chatter, much has been said and speculated about the former ‘Suits’ actress.
Although, it is impossible to pinpoint one aspect behind such public hatred, especially from the vast majority of British people, here are some of the reasons that may have lead to such an outrage.

She is an American
Unlike the reception of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who belongs to an aristocratic British family, Meghan Markle received a cold and a hostile reception, not only from the public but also from the royal family. While Meghan was born in America and comes from an ordinary background, she supposedly failed to meet the conservative criterions of the Britons and this probably could be one of the reasons why the Brits dislike her.

Her ‘Black’ identity
Besides her American origin, Markle has also been a victim of racial slur and slander. From various talks about her black ancestry to discriminatory newspaper headlines, her racial identity seems to be one of the reasons why the British people never accepted her as their own or as a part of the royal family.

She has a twisted family history
While the British Royal family has always tried to maintain a clean and a pure image of the monarchy, Meghan Markle seems to have a history of unconventional family relations. Not only has she broken ties with her father, but her relationship with her sister is also distant and remote. That being said, hers is a family history that is twisted and does not meet the conventional requirements of the British public.

Her profession as an actor
Many people would already be familiar with Meghan Markle’s acting career, which although wasn’t very glorious, did grab the attention of the world. While many applaud her for having made her name before she even became a member of the royal family, the British conservatives are quite critical of her roles, especially in the TV-series ‘Suits’.

She goes against the traditions of the royal family
One thing that has come to light in the recent years is that Meghan Markle does not shy away from listening to her heart. From marrying into the British royalty to making the ‘Megxit’ happen, she has been heavily criticized and condemned for breaking royal protocols and traditions.

She’s blamed for the royal split
Early this year in January, the royal couple, jointly announced their exit from the Royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relinquished all their royal duties and privileges, in order to be financially independent. In a statement made through their Instagram, the couple said, “We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen.” That being said, the British public only seems to blame the Duchess, rather than looking at the reasons that drew them into taking this decision.
