Hey. I’m gonna break down how to draw a Black/African/Dark Skinned person’s lips.

squiddybiddy

Hello! In celebration of a new year, I’m gonna show all of you a tip how to draw lips for Black/African/Dark Skinned people.

image

If you’re drawing a black/dark skinned person, the top lip is a slight step above or below their actual skin tone while the bottom lip can range from a faded pink to brown.

image

Black/African men’s and women’s lip lean towards “nude/palm of the hand” makeup color. Some cases it’s pink but everyone’s lip color varies from pink to brown. In my experience of going outside my house, the darker the person, the pinker the bottom lip is while the lighter brown skin lips will be closer to their actual skin tone.

image

Another note is that the pink /brown tone on the bottom of the lip is near the slit of the mouth, not the complete lip like lipstick makeup. Try adding different tones to a lip and blending both top and bottom lips together because everyone’s different! A very good detail to remember.

TL;DR: USE A REFERENCE. GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH DOESN’T BITE! Thank you for your time! Go out and draw them awesome dark skinned characters and people!

Do you have any tutorials on how to color black characters? When I look for how to color skin it's mostly all white characters Thank you.

Here is a really good tutorial on darker skin by navate. I will check if I got some more.

Also check out the other parts of the tutorial that you can find in the description under the picture on deviantart.

when i got this ask i got so nervous because i really suck at teaching;;; sorry for getting to this so late and letting this stew in my drafts but here’s my best shot!

Some things to consider: Line of action is perhaps the most important thing when drawing poses and figures, as it is the balancing rod that guides the body’s movement. If the line of action is weak or doesn’t make sense, then the pose will not work no matter how much you try to fudge it.

I forgot to mention this in the drawings but you can see that i start every drawing with a basic skeleton. As much as i wish i could draw without the aid of a skeleton, it’s the most essential part of drawing figures.

USING REFERENCE PHOTOS IS A GODSEND. Do not disregard using references, it helps clarify the way a body can move and bend so so much. If you have trouble imagining how the fingers in a pose should look, try it out in the mirror and study your own hand!

there’s so much to talk about with posing and figures, i feel like i hardly scratched the surface. But i hoped this helped somewhat!

splinterisart asked:

hiya, do you have any tips for drawing characters consistently, especially from multiple different angles?? I'm still learning how to do this :0

bevsi answered:

ohh god I don’t think my characters are particularly consistent (I actually find consistently pretty overrated) but I think just think of their features and the structures of their face and body. simplify their shapes - as long as the silhouette and personality are recognizable, the character is recognizable!

but yeah I don’t believe in being perfectly on-model every time (because in real life people look different every time you see em, so it adds a layer of… realism, I guess) as long as they look like “themselves”!

can you tell the exact point in time where I stopped trying to make this into a comprehensible tutorial

ahhh but there you go anon! I hope you find this tutorial useful ahah;; I find that observing real life (or just googling up faces and expressions) really help with understanding faces and how they do the thing. So keep on practicing!

Anonymous asked:

I hope this don't sound rude, but how you can draw in anime style and still make expression so well? I just watched the Congratulation Animatic and Angelica's faces are sooooo good. I only started do make good expression when i switched from anime to a more cartoon-ish art style. what's your secret? 👀

capochiino answered:

That’t actually a question i get hella often… and i actually made a long time ago a small tutorial… well i think it doesnt hurt to put it in….

Gosh I love how you make things look so soft and fluffy. do you have any tips or tricks to help make things look kinda like fur like in this picture?

So here’s my process for drawing fur!

Also, something I failed to mention in the tutorial itself: I use a plain round brush most of the time, and this tutorial doesn’t require any special brushes, but I do occasionally use a bristle-brush with this technique.  Here are the settings for that, if you’d like to give it a try!

I get asked a lot for tips with coloring black people, so i put together a little tutorial! (and bumps my kofi if you found this helpful)

Anonymous asked:

how do i draw realism from a stylistic approach?

art-res answered:

Hi!!

I really think learning the rules first is important before bending them. Once you understand why things the way that they are, you can modify them without looking that off (more stylistic).
