If you’re looking for a quick boost of immunity and energy to keep you feeling great, look no further than these Honey Ginger Shots.

Made from a powerful combination of fresh ginger root, fresh lemon juice, coconut water (or filtered water), honey, and cayenne pepper, this is a powerful wellness shot.

The bold flavors of fresh ginger root and lemon juice are softened by sweet honey and coconut water, making for the perfect balance of flavors to boost your immune system and aid gut health.

Ginger Shot Benefits

The antioxidant compounds in ginger and lemon work together to give your body energy, coconut water is loaded with antioxidants, electrolytes, and hydration, and the (optional) cayenne pepper boosts the metabolism and supports the digestive system.

Health benefits of ginger shots:

  • Considered to be highly effective in treating nausea and bloating.
  • Ginger shots can reduce inflammation; the anti-inflammatory effects of ginger can boost your overall health.
  • Promotes a healthy digestive system and aids in indigestion.
  • Studies have shown that ginger can significantly reduce menstrual pain.
  • Gingerol, which is found in ginger in large amounts, is antiviral and antibacterial and contains properties that may reduce the risk of some diseases such as cancer.
  • Ginger juice in these ginger shots can potentially help lower blood sugar levels and reduce hunger, which can help with weight loss and healthy weight management, and benefit people who are concerned about diabetes.

The clinical trials on the compounds are impressive:

According to a Comprehensive Systematic Review of 109 Randomized Controlled Trials by The National Institutes of Health (1):

  • More than approximately 100 compounds have reportedly been isolated from ginger. Specifically, the major classes of ginger compounds are gingerol, shogaols, zingiberene, and zingerone, as well as other less common compounds, including terpenes, vitamins, and minerals Among them, gingerols are considered as the primary components, reported to possess several bioactivities.
  • Many related biological activities have been explored, such as antioxidants, antimicrobials, and anti-neuroinflammation.
  • Moreover, in recent years, the role of ginger has been extended to anticancer, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), and fatigue, as well as improvements in the quality of life in daily human work.

Often referred to as ginger root, ginger has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years, primarily for its incredible ability to settle the stomach.

BTW: Keep in mind that honey ginger shots do not replace medication. If you are on any medications, talk to your healthcare provider about adding anything to your routine. All that to say, I’m not a medical doctor, and you should always work with your healthcare provider for medical needs. Now, let’s make these ginger shots!

Honey Ginger Shots Ingredients

To make honey ginger shots that taste great, you will need the following key ingredients:

  • Fresh ginger root: Using fresh ginger is essential in this recipe, so don’t swap it out for the ground form. Ginger root is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that make it a fantastic and flavorful addition to any wellness shot.
  • Fresh lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice is packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, and is known for its cleansing abilities on the digestive system and liver. It also boosts energy levels, which is why many people add lemon juice to their water in the morning. You can substitute with fresh lime juice or fresh orange juice.
  • Coconut water (or filtered water): This adds a subtle sweetness that acts as a brilliant contrast to strong flavors like ginger and lemon juice. Additionally, coconut water is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
  • Honey: I like to use Manuka honey for its extra healing benefits, but any minimally processed honey works. Honey contains antibacterial and antioxidant properties that help to support the digestive system and boost immunity in the body.
  • Turmeric (optional): Turmeric adds even more anti-inflammatory properties to your ginger shots. It also aids digestion and has high antioxidant power.
  • Cayenne pepper (optional): This ingredient packs a definite flavor punch, which is why we only use it in small amounts. A pinch of cayenne pepper is great for boosting your metabolism and supporting digestive health. However, it’s optional, so feel free to leave it out if you aren’t a fan.

How to Make Honey Ginger Shots

To make these Honey Ginger Shots, simply follow these 2 quick steps:

  1. Add the ginger, lemon juice, honey, coconut water, and cayenne pepper to a blender or food processor and blend until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag into a jar and keep covered in your refrigerator up to 5 days. Take one to two ounces each morning. You can also take a ginger shot any time of day if desired.

How to Store Honey Ginger Shots

I recommend storing the ginger juice for your ginger shots in airtight glass jars in the fridge. When stored properly, they will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about this healthy morning recipe:

Are ginger shots good for you?

Yes! Ginger shots support the digestive system, and they can boost immunity, help fight harmful free radicals, and potentially lower blood pressure. Some ginger supplements do not contain the amount of ginger listed on the bottle, so I prefer to make these at home for maximum benefits.

Can you take ginger shots every day?

Absolutely. While I don’t recommend tossing back ginger shots throughout the day (you could wind up with heartburn), taking a ginger shot each day can have wonderful effects on your overall health.

When should I take a ginger shot?

I recommend taking ginger shots first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for the best results. It makes for a great way to kick off the day! However, if you forget that’s fine. You can take a ginger shot any time of day.

What else can you add to wellness shots?

If you’re looking to make your own concoction, the key is to use ingredients that maximize nutrients and potential health benefits in small quantities.

Some of my favorite ingredients to add to wellness shots include lime juice, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, spinach, grapefruit, fresh mint, and wheatgrass.
