Hoppers are generally used when making an Automated Farm in Minecraft. Primary hoppers are used to transfer items from one place to another, but you can put literally anything inside of one and it’ll still transfer said item. So if you’re looking for a recipe on how to make a Hopper, or how to use it, we have you covered in our Hoppers guide below.

What is a Hopper and How Does it Work

Hoppers are fairly simple to understand. They have a giant hold on top that you can put items in and a tiny hole on the bottom that they fall into. Or you can put the Hopper on the side of a block and put a check where the hole is facing.

Other than sorting items for you when you’re not nearby to do it yourself.

How to Make a Hopper

Just like any block in Minecraft, you’re going to need to get a few other resources before crafting a Hopper. Listed below are all the items you will need to prepare a Hopper, as well as a screenshot demonstrating the recipe placement.

  • Chest: 1

How to Use a Hopper

Using a hopper is a simple as making one. You’ll notice when placing it, it’ll have a tiny tube either on the bottom or side, depending on how you place it. If you go to a hopper and right-click it or press the left trigger, you’ll see that it has five slots to carry things.

If you have a chest or barrel on the end of the tiny tube and put an item in the hopper, whatever you put in will transfer into the chest or barrel. Where hoppers really shine is when used in Automated Farms, because it saves you the time of getting the crops yourself.
