Why was my anonymous post declined?
We understand that some topics are sensitive and require privacy. However, with thousands of members in our community, we receive many anonymous post requests and must be selective about which ones we approve.
We will only publish anonymous posts that involve genuinely sensitive issues.
Additionally, we do not post medical questions that should be discussed with a GP or health professional. If you’re unsure, it’s always best to seek medical advice directly.
What Anonymous Posts Will We Approve?
We understand that some situations require discretion. We'll approve anonymous posts for sensitive topics, including:
- Mental health concerns - seeking support while maintaining your privacy
- Domestic abuse - getting help and advice in a safe way
- Relationship struggles - whether it's friendship difficulties, marriage issues, separation or divorce
- Financial difficulties - asking for advice during tough times
- Early pregnancy questions - when you're not ready to share your news publicly yet
- Sensitive parenting concerns - issues with your child that could be embarrassing or damaging to them if publicly identified
- School or childcare situations - where identifying the school, childcare centre or your child could cause problems
- Medical issues - seeking advice about health concerns (always consult your doctor for medical advice)
- Career changes - when you don't want your current employer or colleagues to know you're exploring other opportunities
What Anonymous Posts Will We NOT Approve
We want to keep anonymous posting for genuinely sensitive situations. Here's when we'll ask you to post under your own name instead:
When the actual question doesn't need anonymity:
Many posts share a long personal backstory, but the actual question at the end is straightforward and doesn't require privacy.
- Example: You might be feeling overwhelmed or going through a tough time, but your question is simply asking for recommendations for a cleaning service or meal delivery service. We won't approve this as anonymous. Instead, remove the personal details and post directly: "Can anyone recommend a cleaner in the Chatswood area?"
- Example: Something happened at your childcare centre, and you're questioning how it was handled. Rather than an anonymous post with the full story, post from your own account without the backstory: "Does anyone know where I can find the latest guidelines about [topic]?"
Gift ideas and surprises:
Instead of posting anonymously about planning a surprise for a specific friend, ask a more generic question or have another friend post for you.
- Rather than: "I have a very special friend turning 40 and want to surprise her with..."
- Ask: "Has anyone got suggestions for a fun thing to do with girlfriends?" or "Can anyone suggest a fancy restaurant in the city for an anniversary dinner?"
- Or ask a close friend to post: "A friend wants to buy a special present for a 40th birthday, any ideas?"
Common parenting questions:
Everyday parenting challenges that most of us face don't need anonymous posting - toilet training, child sleep issues, breastfeeding questions, fussy eating, etc. These are normal topics we all navigate together!
Financial requests or donations:
We cannot approve anonymous posts requesting financial support, donations, money or items. Unfortunately, scammers create convincing stories to manipulate generous community members. Even if you don't directly ask for help, heartfelt stories can prompt members to offer assistance via private message. For everyone's protection, these posts must be declined.
Have you tried searching the Facebook group?
Most questions have already been asked, many times!
Before submitting an anonymous post, we suggest you use the ‘search’ function in the North Shore Mums Facebook group. From a desktop, click on the magnifying glass and type the keyword.

Why wasn’t my post approved?
- We will only approve highly sensitive posts, and they would be damaging or embarrassing to a person or company if they were publicly identified.
- We also do not approve anonymous posts for Business Hour or sharing Job Board roles. You'll need to do these from your main personal profile.
Can I try again?
If you believe that you have a valid reason for your post to be anonymous, please edit your post to include some context and reason as to why you can't be identified. Then re-submit the new post.
Support Services
If you require counselling or other medical or health services, there are lots of local businesses listed in the North Shore Mums Directory who may be able to assist.
