Prepare for gore.
By Chris ReedUpdated: Apr 23, 2021 4:29pm UTC184 commentsThe 2021 Mortal Kombat movie from Warner Bros. is out now. And while video game movies aren't exactly known for being cinematic masterpieces, this one is actually good. To see what we thought about it, you can check out our Mortal Kombat review. But perhaps you'd rather see it for yourself. Watching it is easy, because, just like every Warner Bros. movie this year, Mortal Kombat is landed on HBO Max on the same day it arrived in theaters. So the easiest way to watch Mortal Kombat is to subscribe to HBO Max. And just like all of the Warner Bros. movies that are landing in theaters and on HBO Max upon release, the movie will be available to watch on the streaming service at no additional charge for 31 days.

If the trailer is any indication, it seems to lean heavily into what makes Mortal Kombat work as a video game, which is to say completely over-the-top violence and gore. The movies director, Simon McQuoid, said they tried to push the limits of an R rating.
