How can people see Pugs as Ugly?????

I was watching Dogs 101 and they were talking about brachycephalic dogs OR dogs that are "so ugly they are cute" They always focus on the pugs when they talk about "ugly dogs." They even had a "Ugliest dog in the world" contest and a boxer mix "Paps" with a under bite won. I couldn't believe it!! Over all the other truly ugly dogs, I was blown away. I have had people tell me to my freaking face about my pugs "oh my goodness that is SO ugly it's cute" It really gets my blood boiling. You are talking about my children here! I do not see the pug, Boston terrier, pekingese, shih tzu, English bulldog, or boxer as ugly. Quite the opposite actually. I think they are the cutest breeds out there! And it's not because they are just so ugly their cute. They are just plain adorable! Now I DO find the Chinese Shar Pei and the hairless dogs ugly. I have NEVER met a Pug I thought was ugly. What do you think? Do you think they are cute? Or so ugly they are cute? Is this Ugly? Or this? or this??? Roxy's eye bulge a little more! Is she ugly? How about this one? Oh man how ugly!!

I am with you on that, H&R's Mom!!! I think Pugs are beautiful inside and out!! And if someone told me my kids were "ugly" they better be ready for a not so nice comment back!! Your babies are gorgeous by the way!

oh my!! They are all adorable! I love all the tongue!! I have had more people that tell me how cute my puggie is more than the other way around. So I try and not pay too much attention to the others...

I have had the same reaction so far, but one thing that cracks me up is when they see Rosie they always ask what she is?? "Um, a Pug" (duh, lol) Maybe her black beauty throws them off, LOL!

I have people tell me the same how elmo is a ugly dog also my boxer is to, But when they say it to elmo i just reply with well me and elmo think you are ugly too most of the time they just walk away then.I dont really think any dog is ugly.

The dogs that win the ugliest dog contests seem to always have some birth defect or illness that makes them win and that's sad. I'm not particularly drawn to the hairless breeds but I would never tell someone that their dog is ugly. That's cruel. I even like long noses. As far as pugs go I have been told that they are ugly and I think it's insane as they are completely beautiful. They have such happy expressive faces. Each one is a little different, just like humans. Here's one of my "ugly" pugs.

all you need to say

is "Same to you". People need to understand that they are not ugly, if they were people wouldn't stop and want to say hi to our pugs. They would look and run the heck away. I cannot count how many times people have stopped me and asked me questions or wanted to pet my dog.

Honestly? I don't consider any dog, pug or otherwise, "ugly". I love animals, I love dogs. They are all unique, even within their breed if purebred. That being said, to me, and I lived with my girlie for 15 years (and others for quite a few years), it never bothered me that certain people would say things like "so ugly she's cute" or "a face only a mother could love".....who cares? What matters is what's between you and your dog. To each his own, everyone can like something different. It's no reflection on you, or your dog.

I don't get upset if someone says that but I get more upset with men who don't like pugs because they think they are silly, useless dogs. Unless the dog is large or a working dog, like it isn't masculine or something. THAT gets my blood boiling! I have noticed that most children who have never seen a pug before, tend to be afraid. I asked a couple of kids once why they were afraid and they said the face was scary to them. Also, when a pug snorts, sometimes people think they are growling. I know that first hand as well because when I first met my first pug, who was a rescue from the pound, I thought he was growling! The techs there laughed at me and said it was just snorting and "purring" like a pug! I fell in love!
