I've already made Cait my lover and a relationship with Curie and Piper as a male main character. I am trying to get Preston Garvey maxxed for his perk, and I just can't get it done. I've had him as my companion, doing goodie two shoes crap for days (RL), easily 4x longer amount of time it has taken to max any other character. Anyone have advice? I keep doing settlement quests, and choosing helping style conversation options for likes/loves +, but he still won't max out. When I try to talk to him, he keeps spewing crap about me doing right by him and whatnot. When we "had that talk", I told him basically that I was his friend and to stop with the hitting on me stuff. < > Showing 1-15 of 20 comments Overkill View Profile View Posts 23 Dec, 2015 @ 7:08pm He's really easy to max. Just take him with you and do a ton of minutemen quests and choose to help them without asking for money. If you don't think you have any active, turn on Radio Freedom and it gives you them. Also how is Cait reacting to this situation? Ha. #1 SaveTheZombies View Profile View Posts 23 Dec, 2015 @ 7:33pm Actually the easiest thing to do (though it is a bit tedious)1 Take Preston with you to a gun workbench2 Mod a gun3 Save the game4 Reload5 Re-attach original mod6 Save and reload again7 rinse & repeatYou can just switch the same gun mod back and forth. As long as you save and reload, Preston will like it every time. I did that gun mod trick thing over 20 times, and he still doesn't give me any kind of new conversation option that would lead to me getting his perk. This is so frustrating! He's a terrible companion. then just type this 1a4d7.setav CA_affinity 999, take him out on one mission and when you come back he should want to talk to you. Turn off your sound though, its painful to listen to. He gives me "hey can we have that conversation now?" line that I keep getting. I've exhausted all four conversation options off of it "What conversation?" "I understood" "No idea" and "Appreciated your trust", and I have followed all of them to a point where he ends the conversation. The only options I haven't been able to choose are the "Romance" ones which are red to me. Is that the only way to max Preston Garvey to get his perk? ROFL! I would shoot them, but I already duded my settlers up in custom, role-specific clothes and armament. Also, "karma" loss with the Minutemen when you do that.But yeah, Bethseda needs to patch this. Kidnappings, like raids, should be tied to the defense rating of settlements. Once you get a settlement above a certain level, they should just plain stop.I get SO sick of doing the same "go here, kill everything" or "rescue my friend" missions. have you tried the reset faction to neutral command? That was the only thing that unglitched him for me. Although my issue was he never was an option to even be a companion.Lufy, i read only your text here because others are throwing in stuff that doesnt adress you issue.What I am going to suggest is a little time consuming but I think yor issue is he got stuck(bugged) somewhere in between leveling up to you.There are stages that are events with companions, som lead to quests like curie becoming human cannot allow affinity to go above 499, Macready will not advance past 749 till you get him the serum ect. A companion will only have that "conversation, after advancing past those events, only they require a cell change to update. Ever notice they always want to talk when you enter a building full of enemies ect? Events happen at 500, 750 and 1000So reset him to affinity 499, then do soemthing he likes. Fast travel and then check his affinity (ie id.getav CA_affinity)he should want to have that first "can we talk"Then after that, set his affinity to 749 and repeat. Then do the 999 setting and wait for the event to trigger.Other than that, I dont know else how to help other than restting him with the reset faction option.
