  • MN Mom MN Mom on Apr 13, 2016 Be very careful that you don't cause a chemical reaction. Depending on what your countertop is made of, using acetone, bleach or other harsh chemicals could do irreparable damage. The manufacturer of the hair color may have suggestions on their website. I'm certain you aren't the first person to have this happen! Helpful Reply
  • Francesca Francesca on Apr 13, 2016 With our house of girls this has happened many times! We have a regular sink and just use bleach successfully to remove stains. Obviously mop up any excess so that it's just the stain and using a rag dipped in bleach rub the stain. I've even left the stain covered for a short while to help the process. If it isn't removed immediately it will eventually fade out during your regular cleaning ( after initially trying the bleach) Helpful Reply
  • Christine Almeida Christine Almeida on Apr 13, 2016 I use soft scrub with bleach cleanser. It works on my walls, floors, sink, anything! Be sure it is the paste kind, not the spray on. Shake bottle well, and spread on the spot only, with finger and let sit for a half hour or so, then wipe with a damp paper towel until the stain disappears. Be careful, it will bleach clothes so do not lean against sink if scrubbing entire sink. 1 marked as helpful Reply

  • Aida Pardo Aida Pardo on Apr 15, 2016 I tried the acetone that took most of it out, there is still a lite pink stain, so now I am using the bleach, but yes by the time I finish the stain will be gone. Thank you so much everyone for all of your help. Helpful Reply

Oops, that happens to me all the time. We have a really old white porcelain sink and I always use Bar Keepers Friend when I mess up. It’s a powdery cleaner that turns into a gritty paste when you add a little water. For older stains it does require a bit of elbow grease, but it's worth it.

This happens to me too. Usually I can wipe the dye right off but if it's set in, acetone or bleach should do it. You might have to go back and hit it a few times. You could also call a salon or a store like Sally Beauty, ask them about color remover suggestions. If all else fails, the manufacturer might have tips.

Lemon juice and lemon slices, let them set. Check the progress after an hour. This has worked with my red dye on a fiberglass sink.

Your sink composition will have a lot to do with what you can or cannot use. But in general, hydrogen peroxide would be my first "go to" on this.

My daughter did this to my sink and my tile floor recently. We used Cerama Bryte and it removed it all. I needed two or three passes, but it worked.
