updated Jan 30, 2010posted by hanran1voteWell there are a few rules when expressing time. I'll try to explain in the best way that I can:
If it's not 1(AM or PM), you usually say "Son las" before the actual time. 3:30 PM is a good example. ¿Qué hora es? Son las tres y medía. If it is 1, you would say a la(notice that 1 is singular and the rest is plural). Thus, 1:30 would be a la uno y medía. This leads me to the next point. There are a few ways to express half-past the hour. You can say (hour) y trienta, (hour) menos trienta, or, more commonly, medía. When expressing a time before half-past the hour, you say (hour) y (minutes). When expressing a time after half-past the hour, you subtract the number of minutes from the next hour. For instance, 3:06 would be Son las tres y seis. 3:15 would be Son las tres y cuarto(and a quarter). 3:54 would be Son las cuatro menos seis. 3:45 would be Son las cuatro menos cuarto. One more thing, when it's noon, you would typically say "mediodía" - middle of the day. Midnight would be "medianoche" - middle of the night. I do believe that there is a lesson unit on telling time... try to find it.
I hope that helped, -nrdyAWSM

Well I apologize for the mistakes.
