Blogging as a side hustle to make £5,000 per month
Blogging is my number one side hustle and I would recommend it to anyone as a way to make extra money. There are plenty of ways for bloggers to make money including sponsored posts, affiliate marketing and adverts.
Affiliate marketing is my biggest earner from blogging. Affiliate marketing is where you promote a product or a service and you earn a commission for every sale that you drive. There are so many positives to affiliate marketing – one of the biggest is that someone doesn’t have to buy a product or service that you have linked to there and then. If they come back and make a purchase at a later date, you can still earn a commission. I have put together all of my affiliate marketing secrets into one place for you, in How To SMASH Affiliate Marketing as a UK Blogger. In this video and text course I cover everything from which affiliate programs to join to how to get over that fear of emailing your list. If you are interested in affiliate marketing then be sure to check out my guide to getting started with affiliate marketing.

If all of this sounds good and you aren’t put off by hard work (this stuff doesn’t happen overnight) then you might want to consider making your own blog and seeing how you can successfully monetise it. There are 5 steps to earning money from blogging:
- Decide what to blog about
- Build your blog – here’s my full tutorial for creating a WordPress website
- Create useful, awesome and amazing content
- Get visitors to your blog
- Start monetising your blog
Matched betting
I love matched betting, and you should too! Matched betting is a way to make some serious guaranteed profit by utilising the free bet offers that bookmakers offer to both new and existing customers. I made £12,000 in my first 12 months, and best of all, it is tax free! So when it comes being able to make £5000 a month, matched betting is a key part of the strategy.
Mystery Shopping
Getting paid to eat at restaurants or go shopping sounds like the dream, doesn’t it? Every month I earn money and treat my husband to free meals out thanks to mystery shopping. What’s more, some mystery shopping tasks can be done from the comfort of your own home, making it a really flexible side hustle.

Mystery shopping is a tool used by companies to evaluate their quality of service. Imagine a store knowing that a regional manager would be visiting the store – the store would be on “best behaviour” and the manager wouldn’t know where the store is failing and where they are excelling. So companies employ outside mystery shopping agencies to recruit mystery shoppers to carry out assignments. These shoppers will act like a normal customer and look at certain aspects of the service they receive. The shopper then completes a report after the assignment and receives a payment for doing so. Surveys

Every month I make between £40-£60 completing online surveys. Whilst it isn’t going to make me rich, that easily pays for a week’s groceries, or a meal out. I have dramatically cut down the number of online surveys I do, so that I can focus on other side hustles. However I still enjoy completing them, so I’m not ready to give them up just yet! Surveys can be completed anywhere – from the comfort of your sofa to commuting on the bus! Click here to see my top 10 survey websites.
Freelancing
Freelancing is an area that I have dramatically cut back on, and now I only retain one client because I find their work really fun! Before I started cutting back I was doing a bit of everything – managing affiliate relationships, doing blogger outreach, working as a social media manager and more. Being a blogger means that you have a lot of skills that can be used for a variety of freelancing roles, so this is a great side hustle for many bloggers.
Property rental
I was blessed enough to purchase my first house aged 18 (here’s the story about how THAT happened!) and now, after a lot of money spent on renovations, I get a monthly income from this property. We’re unsure as to whether we want to look at increasing this income by getting more rental properties, but for now this is a nice earner for us. Property rental can really help when you’re trying to make £5000 a month.
Property Auction Referrals
Somewhat related to the above, auction companies and estate agents like Property Solvers are always on the lookout for properties to market. As they save on ongoing marketing costs, the commissions are very good. At Property Solvers, for instance, they pay 1% of the property’s sales price as a commission and take full control of the process (i.e. you don’t have to do anything once the referral has been made). If you see any properties that may be of interest, simply reach out to them and they explain how it all works.
Smart phone apps
I love my iPhone, perhaps a little too much, and I love that I can use it to earn some money! There are plenty of apps available to help you earn some money. Some of the tasks can be completed from home, and others are location based tasks, but I easily earn over £1,000 a year by completing these tasks on my iPhone, so it you’re trying to make £5000 a month, it can really make the difference. Alternatively, if you need quick funds for an emergency, consider downloading the LoanMart app on your phone to apply for a title loan online!
eBay reselling to make £5000 a month
I have always had an eye for spotting bargains at car boot sales and charity shops to sell on eBay, but I have only recently learned that there is a whole reselling community dedicated to people who are doing this as a hobby or as a full time income.

The idea is really simple – we source something cheaply and sell it online for a profit. During the summer months we do really well at car boot sales, and in the colder months we take to finding deals at charity shops and online.
Free daily draws
Did you know that you can be in a daily prize draw for cash? Daily draws have been giving prize money away on a daily basis, so I make it a point to check all of these on a daily basis. I have them all bookmarked in a folder on my browser, so I can open them all at once and check them. Sign up today and get your name in ASAP – you’ve got to be in it to win it!

Everything else to make £5000 a month
If you want to make £5000 a month, it is really important to me that I diversify my income, which is why I regularly check in to these different websites. Often the work on them varies, sometimes there can be a lot and sometimes it isn’t anything I want to do. However, I check in on them regularly depending on what I’m in the mood for and how much time I have.

In no particular order, here is a list of websites and things I dip in to every month to make some extra money.
- Getting cashback with Top Cashback and Quidco
- Gift Hunter Club
- Swagbucks
- Slice The Pie
- Click Worker
- Making money with my social media
- Decluttering and selling items
- Investing money
So there you have it – the side hustle ideas that make £5000 a month.
