Boatnut03-09-2007, 09:28 AMJust curious...on say a minnkota trolling motor...where are the measurements taken for shaft length? from underside of head to top of motor? or..centerline to centerline? I think I have a 54" but depending on where you measure..it could only be a 48"! Just curious. Mike (aka Boatnut) "Many fish bites if you got good bait. In other words, if you took the troll motor apart and laid the shaft on a bench and measured it...you'd have it. Boatnut03-09-2007, 02:53 PMOk....so....measure from underneath the control head to....where it goes into the motor? give or take an inch? thanks Mike (aka Boatnut) "Many fish bites if you got good bait. They measure the shaft before it's installed. I learned the hard way. When I replaced an old 50" with a new 50" there was almost a 4" difference in exposed (usable) shaft lenght, because the new one had that much more of the shaft in the housings. When I called Motor Guide, they basicly told me if I wanted a 50" shaft I should have ordered a 60"shaft. I ended up paying to have the shaft changed as the new one was too short. Boatnut03-09-2007, 04:01 PMfinally heard from minnkota..here's what they said. Mike, It is measured from the bottom of the top head to the top part of the lower unit. It took me a couple of trys at motor guide til some one gave me the right answer on how they measure the shaft. T Mac03-09-2007, 04:10 PMYes... and allow for the insertion into the collar on each end. Bill Krejca03-10-2007, 09:30 AMAnother way to determine length might be to go to the dealer's and measure several that you might be interested in, and compare length vs what the sticker says.
