The wars that followed in Afghanistan and Iraq lasted for two decades. Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks, was located and killed by U.S. Navy SEALs in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2, 2011 — nearly ten years after the attacks.
