Kief is the crystalline resinous glands that fall off from the marijuana plant, also known as Cannabis.

They naturally fall off when the trichomes dry out, but growers also target and collect Kief specifically to be consumed itself.

Kief is more potent than its flower, and it can be used in various ways. You can smoke, ingest, or even make a hash.

But smoking kief gives the most intense effect. Since Kief has a neutral taste, it can be added to some dishes without distorting its flavor.

You may add it to your morning coffee or tea too.

You can also press kief crystals into a hash using an iron. Later the pressed Kief can be rolled into a parchment paper.

Next, taste it. When the weed has been sitting for too long, it will taste harsh.

Kief that has lost its smell and taste completely has probably lost its potent chemicals also.

Feel the texture. If your weed is too spongy or brittle, it indicates that it is either too dry or too moist.

Old Kief may go moldy or taste off, but it is not necessarily harmful. Unless you have underlying health problems, you can still use it past its prime time.

Bad Kief will taste harsh and brittle. They also tend to grow bacteria on them. It will also grow mold, which is notably not good for your health.

Hence, it is best to toss it away if you think your Kief is too old, moldy, or contaminated in any way.

Generally, weed remains fresh for six months to one year if you store it properly. After that, you have to determine if it is good enough by its aroma and potency.

According to Healthline, weed loses 14 percent of its THC after a year. Then on, it will keep dropping with 41% THC lost after four years.

Kief, like all other forms of marijuana, must be stored appropriately if you want to extend its shelf life.

Kief crystals are delicate, while plastic bags and containers are static.

So, the right way to go is to keep them in airtight glass jars that will not let in too much oxygen that can potentially destroy your Kief.

After that, store it in a cool, dry, and dark place. Keeping your weeds in the freezer may also not be a good idea as the crystals of trichomes might dry out.

A dark place with a temperature of 77oF will be the best for storage.
