Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderHow Long Is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?

Our playtime estimates are true... from a certain point of view.

By IGN StaffUpdated: Nov 16, 2019 12:31am UTC182 commentsAccording to our review, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the first amazing single-player game we've had set in the galaxy far, far away in far too long, and it may be a while before we get another. So how long will Cal Kestis' journey last you? Two of us have beaten it so far (we'll add more as we go – a bunch of us are close to the end!) – here's how long we spent and what's left to do.

Dan Stapleton, Reviewer

It’s hard to put a pin on exactly how long a game like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will take to play through because a lot of that will depend on how you choose to play it. If you want to blow through it on the easiest mode just to absorb the story and puzzles you could likely wrap it up in around 10 hours. On the other hand, if you want a challenge and crank it up to Jedi Master (the third of four difficulty settings) like I did, it’ll keep you busy a lot longer. There’s no “time played” clock on the PC version but my ballpark estimate is that I spent between 20 and 25 hours, including one puzzle I got stuck on for the better part of an hour and what must’ve been 30 attempts to defeat the final boss.At the end of that time I’m showing 80% completion, with the remainder being cosmetic items and maybe a few Force and health-expanding items. After defeating the final boss you can load back into your save and hunt the rest of it down, which would likely take a fair number of hours if you’re not using a detailed guide, especially since you’ll need to not just locate them but also fight your way through all the enemies in those areas to reach them. There's no New Game+, but you can always start over on a higher difficulty – unless you're a maniac who went with Jedi Grand Master out of the gate.

It’s hard to tell exactly how many hours it took to beat Jedi Fallen Order, since it doesn’t actually track that stat for you, but I can say that I got it on Friday evening and beat it by Sunday afternoon while playing on Jedi Master Mode. My guess is that it took me about 15 or so hours for a first playthrough, and after the credits rolled, I stuck around for another four or five hours to hunt down some extra collectibles, putting me at about 85% completion.

At that point, I decided to put down my so-called “completionist run” and decided instead to do a second playthrough on the hardest difficulty, Jedi Grand Master, which I’m having a lot more fun with. The lack of a fast-travel system makes it extremely frustrating to hunt down collectibles, and the honest truth is that the collectibles themselves aren’t all that exciting. Spending 30 minutes going from one side of a planet to the other, only to find a palette swap of your poncho or a lightsaber part that you can barely see due to it always being in Cal’s hand is not super rewarding. On the other hand, Jedi Grand Master is a lot of fun once you’ve built up the skills to handle it. Enemies are more aggressive, parries are harder to time, and you’re punished much more harshly for your mistakes, forcing you to truly explore the full depth of Jedi Fallen Order’s combat. I’m currently 40% of the way done on my Jedi Grand Master playthrough and fully intend to see it through to the end.

Reviewed by Lucas Thomas
August 11, 2009
It's actually a bit surprising to me that Super Star Wars has retained the popularity it has over the years, because I'd think most gamers who got their hands on the original SNES cartridge in the '90s would have been frustrated to the point of not wanting to return to it -- but there must be a strong following of hardcore players who mastered the challenge nonetheless, or else nostalgia's pulling a Jedi mind trick, because the reaction to LucasArts' announcement that this game and its two sequels were headed to the Virtual Console seems to have been met with nothing but universal praise and acceptance. Maybe the Star Wars fanbase really is just that strong.View 113 ImagesReviewed by Lucas Thomas
August 24, 2009
So I'd recommend first getting Super Star Wars, trying it out, and seeing if you can handle its intensity. Then, if you feel like you've mastered its ways, consider progressing further up the difficulty curve with this sequel. All just things to keep in mind. And if you do decide to buy, well, good luck -- and may the Force be with you.Reviewed by Lucas Thomas
September 8, 2009
Super Return of the Jedi never earned much of my attention in the SNES age. I'd been hyped to play Super Empire Strikes Back most of all, since it was based on my favorite of the three films -- but its incredibly brutal level of difficulty quickly squashed my desire to spend any more time or money on the trilogy as a whole. Well, that was my mistake. I should have given the series another chance back then, because I would have discovered the considerable improvements made in Super Return 15 years ago, instead of 24 hours ago.Reviewed by Levi Buchanan
October 24, 2008
Star Wars Arcade is one of the better games for the 32X, which isn’t saying too much since the add-on's legacy is an industry joke. Played through the prism of 1994, though, you can see the incredible promise of actually having SEGA's 3D arcade games at home, even if it was a short experience. If you're a dead system collector with a soft spot for the 32X, Star Wars Arcade is one of the three must-haves for the add-on.Reviewed by Adam Cleveland
October 5, 1999
The fact of the matter is, most Star Wars games I've played have done little to wow me. Rogue Squadron aside (the one on N64), there's just not much that the brand name has done for console gaming in contrast to what it has for movie-goers. The Phantom Menace is a good game, but like most others based on films, it doesn't strike me as either gorgeous, immersive, or unbeatable in terms of gameplay. Fans looking for a fix will have fun if they give it a rent, but it's not a real keeper over extended periods of time. So far, PSX-owners have had little, if anything, in their ball park when it comes to great Star Wars software. And while it really is a good game, TPM could have done more to quench our Jedi thirsts.
