The final episode of Game of Thrones is nearly upon us, and we’re not sure if we’re quite ready.

The season 8 finale will premiere at 2am tomorrow morning (Monday 20 May).

That’s 9pm Eastern Time for our friends across the pond, who luckily don’t have to choose between a sleepless night or a day spent dodging spoilers on social media.

How long is the last episode of Game of Thrones?

Episode six will last a grand total of 80 minutes which is approximately the same length as episodes three, four and five of the current season.

Despite the longer episodes this season, some fans have felt that the new season should have been longer.

The disappointment from a portion of the fanbase has even led to fans signing a petition to remake season eight with different writers.

What is the longest ever Game of Thrones episode?

Season eight, episode three – The Long Night – currently holds the record for the longest Game of Thrones episode, clocking in at 82 minutes.

Prior to this season, the longest episodes were season 7’s penultimate Beyond the Wall episode (71 minutes) and the season 6 finale, The Winds of Winter (69 minutes).

How long have the Game of Thrones season 8 episodes been?

While the season started off with shorter episodes, newer episodes have crept well over the usual one hour runtime.

  • Episode 1: 54 minutes
  • Episode 2: 58 minutes
  • Episode 3: 82 minutes
  • Episode 4: 78 minutes
  • Episode 5: 80 minutes
  • Episode 6: 80 minutes

The final season is also one of the most expensive to date in terms of production budget.

While HBO don’t fully disclose statistics, it’s believed they spent around $90 million (£69 million).

What is the shortest ever Game of Thrones episode?

Season 7’s The Spoils of War episode clocked in at just 50 minutes.

Several other episodes have lasted just 51 minutes.
