Of course, less in south texas and more around these parts. My wife's family ranches; however, I wouldn't have the slightest clue. I believe they run around 50-100 on 1000 acres in south texas and about 20-30 on 150 acres here. It all depends on the quality of the grass and water. 0 Filburt You must be a subscriber to . On 500 acres you would ideally need multiple sources to allow for rotational grazing. Having said that, rotational grazing allows you to maximize the number of cattle you can put per acre.In central to semi south you can raise about three per acre depending on the type and quality of grass. How much wooded or brush land you have is important as well. With decent vegetation and ample fresh water you should be able to easily run 150 head with little required feeding on your part. Again with proper management, that number increase drastically.I run cattle in several smaller places and run three acres per cow and in some places as few as two acres per cow. 0 Peter Gibbons You must be a subscriber to . So depending upon how many pounds of forage per acre your property can produce, will determine how many animal units you can run. 0 Apache You must be a subscriber to . Subscribe Now

It depends on the condition of your pasture, rainfall, etc. 0 wareagle044 You must be a subscriber to . Subscribe Now

Your question has no solid answer. I have seen ranches in South Texas with only moderate brush that would run an AU (which is a cow and calf by the way) to 20 acres, and I've seen some that would run one to 100 acres. Rainfall and management is the key. We stock our 320 acres in Central Texas modestly at a cow to about 8 acres. It includes some vcery good rangeland and a good bit of coastal bermuda plus oats in the winter. I dispise feeding hay, and stockpile my grass on the rangeland while feeding protein in the winter. Hay is used sparingly. Not that I know anything about range and pasture management ....... 0 Skip to Last Page 1 Page 1 of 1 Page 1 of 1 Post Reply This post has been flagged.
