Red Dead Redemption 2 is a big game split into a series of chapters, each containing a different number of main missions.

There are no game spoilers below, it’s just a number, but if you don’t want to know how many missions are in RDR2, look away now.

The game itself doesn’t tell you. The Total Completion section of the Progress menu shows that you’ve completed “35/??” missions, for example.

Red Dead Redemption 2 mission count

There are 104 missions in Red Dead Redemption 2 split across six chapters and a two-part epilogue.

The number of missions in each chapter breaks down as follows:

  • Chapter 1: 6 missions
  • Chapter 2: 18 missions
  • Chapter 3: 17 missions
  • Chapter 4: 14 missions
  • Chapter 5: 9 missions
  • Chapter 6: 19 missions
  • Epilogue – Part 1: 10 missions
  • Epilogue – Part 2: 11 missions

Some missions are standalone, while others comprise multiple parts. When, how and in some cases if you complete them will depend on the path your narrative takes, as some are determined by choices made.

There are plenty of optional mission as well, including 19 Stranger side missions, over 550 items to add to your Compendium, challenges, bounties and chance encounters to complete, and gang hideouts to takeout, plus a stack of collectables.

How to replay missions in Red Dead Redemption 2 for gold medals

Every mission ranks your performance with a bronze, silver or gold medal. You can replay missions at any time to improve your performance. The second time around, you have the advantage of knowing all sub-objectives that must be completed for that coveted gold status.

To replay a mission, navigate to the ‘Progress’ section of the menu and selection ‘Story’.

Here you will find all of the missions already completed with the medals you have earned, as well as the gold medal checklist.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on Xbox One and PS4.
