AnswerVerifiedVerified544.5k+ viewsHint: There are nine planets in our solar system. These nine planets complete revolution around the Sun with the Sun as the centre. The nine planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The students should note that the order of planets is in the increasing order of distance from the sun.Complete answer: Moon is the name given to the natural satellite that revolves around a planet. Satellite is a body of mass that revolves around the planets of the solar system. There are two kinds of satellites: Natural Satellites, that have existed since very long and Artificial Satellites, that are created by humans and launched into space. The natural satellite is also called the moon. There is no fixed rule or criteria to define the number of the moons that the planets have. Infact, the pattern of the number of moons in each planet is highly arbitrary. For example, Earth has only one moon, Mars has two moons. However, Jupiter and Saturn have 79 and 82 known moons respectively. The largest moon in the solar system is that of Jupiter’s Ganymede. The only two planets that do not have a moon are: Mercury and Venus. Partly, the reason for non-existence of moons for these planets is owing to their exceedingly close distance to the Sun, which makes them highly unstable and it could bombard the planets. Therefore, the number of moons that Venus has, is 0. Note: Moons have different characteristics when associated with different planets, such as, the Earth’s Moon or simply, called moon, has huge craters on the surface and completely, airless atmosphere, whereas the largest moon of Saturn, Titan has a very dense atmosphere and only body other than the Earth to have presence of surface liquid on a stable surface.
