A quart is a unit of volumetric measurement, while a pound is a unit of weight. The two are not comparable without knowing the density of the item in question.

A quart is 32 fluid ounces, while a pound is a 16-ounce measurement of weight. It would seem that one pound would be equal to half of a quart, but it is not. A quart measures the volume, or amount of space a substance takes up, while a pound measures the weight, or how heavy an item is. Water is one of the few items in which the liquid volume is equivalent to the weight, as a 32-ounce weight of water is one quart.
