Prison Break: How many seasons are there? 

The series counts in all 5 seasons for the time being, whose first broadcast by the Fox network was from August 29, 2005 to May 15, 2009The final season was broadcast in 2017.

The series was scheduled to run for 6 seasons initiallybut the lead actor Wentworth-Miller said in 2020 that he no longer wished to play the character of Michael Scofield for personal reasons. Season 6, which was scheduled for release in 2017, could still go ahead, however, according to actor Dominic Purcell's confirmation in an Instagram post published in 2020.

What's for sure is that there's no news on its release date yet. While we wait for Prison Break season 6, check out the most eagerly awaited Netflix series of 2024.

Season 1 with 22 episodes

The first season ran from August 29, 2005 to May 15, 2006.

In this season, Michael Scofield is voluntarily imprisoned in the same Fox River prison as his brother Lincoln Burrows. The latter is sentenced to deathand to free him, Michael seeks escape with him.

Indeed, Michael has a plan and he prepared everything before coming to Fox River prison. For example, he had the prison plans tattooed on his chest. Unfortunately, the other inmates and the prison's problems will stand in the way of his attempts to escape with his brother.

Later, he and his brother realize that a conspiracy is at the root of their problem, and that it has been organized by the Company, an influential and dangerous corporation. At the prison, Michael maintains ties with the other inmates, including Fernando Sucre and Sara Tancredi, the prison doctor.

Season 2 with 22 episodes:

The first broadcast ran from August 21, 2006 to April 2, 2007. 

The plan worked, and Michael, his brother and other prisoners managed to escape from Fox River Prison. Now considered the 8 most notorious fugitives in the U.S., they seek to escape not only the authorities, but also the Company, which has sent them an extremely competent and radical agent: Alex Mahone. Sara Tancredi is suspected of being an accomplice in the escape.

Season 3 with 13 episodes

Broadcast from September 17, 2007 to February 18, 2008. 

Michael is again detainedbut this time in a prison in Panama. The Company asks her to escape with a certain James Whistler, or risk killing LJ and Sara, who have been kidnapped.

This time, it's his brother's turn to help Michael. On the outside, he tries to thwart the Company's plans while supporting his brother, who is trying to save himself in a prison where the inmates rule!

Season 4 with 22 episodes

Broadcast from September 1, 2008 to May 15, 2009. 

In this season, Michael, Lincoln and the others are from free again, but this time, they're trying to unite to bring down the Company.

No one can be trusted, and traitors frequently change sides and objectives. The authorities strike a deal with the fugitives: if they manage to bring back Scylla, a Company software program that reveals many secrets, they will all be released.

Season 5 with 9 episodes

Just before season 5, the TV movie entitled "The Last Escape" was broadcast in 2009. 

And in season 5, for the past 7 years, Michael has been declared deadbut is now being held in a prison called Ogygia in the Middle East. When T-Bag tells his brother Lincoln that he is alivehis brother Lincoln and his friend Sucre are preparing to break him out of the country.

Once Michael is free, his only objective will be to find Sara and her son, whom he has never met. This season ran from April 4, 2017 to May 30, 2017.

Is season 6 already underway?

The good news is that a season 6 remake is on the way. in production by Hulua platform acquired by Disney. Writer/director Elgin James will be behind the sequel.

At present, however, details on the sequel to Prison Break remain relatively confidential. There was no teaser, nor was the release date announced. This famous season 6 will probably not be available before 2025 or even early 2026.

The story centers on the character of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who has had his entire body tattooed with the layout of Fox River Penitentiary to free his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), wrongly accused of murder.

Little known details about the series

The casting

Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller were chosen at random at the last moment by the director. Wentworth Miller joined the series a week before shooting began, and Dominic Purcell was the last actor chosen.

Shooting

All the scenes were shot in a real penitentiary closed in 2002 (Joliet Correctional Center, Illinois), even if Fox River is an imaginary place. The filmmakers did their utmost to create a real prison setting during the filming of this cult series.

Scenarios different from the original version

The directors had to modify certain scripts (such as the decapitation of Sarah Wayne Callies' character, who could have died earlier of an overdose). The original plan was actually to have Sara Tancredi disappear in season 1, but given her popularity with fans, the directors decided to change it.

The tattoo

The actor doesn't have a real tattoo, but one was projected on him to shoot the scenes. Tom Berg created Michael Scofield's fabulous tattoo from the prison blueprints. Using a layering technique, he then refined it by adding subtle contours to conceal the shots.

The story

The series remains fictional, although the two brothers claim that the series was inspired by their own story of fugitives that they actually lived through in the 1960s, which was reportedly turned down by production shortly beforehand. However, from 2007 to 2009, actor Lane Garrison, who plays Tweener (a character who died in season 2), actually went to prison.
