I wanted to know the answer to this too, so I bought a pint of blueberries and weighed it. This is what I found.

Does a pint of blueberries weigh a pound? Is a pound of blueberries the same volume as a pint? I've asked all these questions myself no less than a dozen times so I bought a pint of blueberries and weighed them. How much does a pint of blueberries weigh in ounces?

Weight of a pint of blueberries is 12 ounces.

That's 3/4 of a pound (less than a pound).

Just so you know, I gathered lots of packages of blueberries at the grocery store and weighed them one by one. Yes, I really did this as produce shoppers all around me looked on. I wanted to be sure about my findings. I found that all pints of blueberries weighed between 11 and 12 ounces. Most weighing closer to 12 ounces.

There are 2 1/8 cups blueberries in a pint

This is what my grocery store pint measured. Two cups...plus a little bit. We all know there are 2 cups in a pint, but when I measured out the blueberries by the cup there were a little more than two cups. We are talking about whole blueberries here. The blueberry is a round fruit and when you measure it out there will be spaces in between all those blueberries. This is taken into account in recipes, so using a cup measure with whole blueberries is indeed how to measure them. Now purried, that would be different.

What's better than a blueberry covered in chocolate? Not much!

I was going to feature the 5 ounce Emily's bag but why simply tease? Go for the 20 ounce.

Who has the time to count how many blueberries are in a pint, right? Me! Those are 5 minutes I'll never see again, but that's OK. Now we all know....

There are about 275 blueberries in a pint.

My grocery store pint had a mix of small, medium and large bluerries. Mostly mediums. I feel good about my pint being a good average pint. A pint of large blueberries would, of course, be a smaller count. Small blueberries would be a larger count per pint.

I measured out a cup full of blueberries and counted them. The cup was full, but not mounded, so this count is pretty accurate.

There are about 120-125 blueberries in a cup.

Again, this is for medium size blueberries, with a few larges and smalls thrown in. I feel like this is a good count for medium size berries.

One serving of blueberries is one cup.

One cup of blueberries has about:

85 calories,

20 grams of carbohyrates

3.5 grams of fiber

Comparing $$$ prices - Going from Pints to Pounds

This is the big question: How to compare prices when blueberries are sold by the pint and by the pound. You can do it two ways.

Multipling the price of the pint by 1.33 will give you price per pound.

Example: If blueberries are 3.00 per pint, multiply $3.00 x 1.33 = $3.99 per pound

Or

Multipling the price of the pound by .75 will give you the price per pint.

Example: If blueberries are $5.00 per pound, multiply $5.00 x .75 = $3.75 per pint

 

Blueberry farms ususally sell by the pound. Grocery stores usually sell by the pint.

I had no idea you bought blueberries by the pint! In the UK you buy them in grams. But I love this sort of question. And I love blueberries.

My blueberry bushes won't start producing until later in the summer but this information is good to have on hand! I have two bushes and one produces earlier and one later. One variety is small and one is the size of cherries. LOVE blueberries. Try making a blueberry sauce and serve it over scones. Yum!!!

My favorite recipe with Blueberries is the Fruit Salad that I wrote a Squidoo lens about. They have some gorgeous Blueberries at our local Farmers Market so it is time for me to make that salad. Loved all your weighing wisdom. We were trying to explain to our grandson just last week about a Bushel and a Peck.

I just bought fresh blueberries from our Whole Foods market last week, and yum! plump, and perfect flavor. I love the fresh ones, and now they have come out with all kinds of good nutritional information about blueberries.

Have to admit that I never really cared how much they weighed though. :)
