Judi Dench is a legendary British actress and a Dame of the British Empire, widely admired for her immense contribution to British theatre and cinema. She was born in 1934 in Yorkshire, and her mother was of Irish descent. From an early age, Judi was passionate about acting and dreamed of building a career on the stage. Her professional theatre debut took place in the late 1950s at the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool, and for the next two decades she focused mainly on classical theatre, performing in numerous Shakespeare productions including Macbeth and Hamlet.

Her film career began to flourish in the 1980s with roles in A Room with a View and Love in a Cold Climate, but worldwide fame came when she joined the James Bond franchise as M, appearing in films such as GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Skyfall where she played near Pierce Brosnan, Sophie Marceau, Halle Berry, etc. Other notable performances include Shakespeare in Love, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and Tulip Fever.
