Lil Nas X is a young American hip hop singer and social media star who rose to fame in the late 2010s with his few first singles. Born Montero Lamar Hill in 1999 in Georgia, he was brought up first by his mom (since his parents were divorced) and then by his father who was a gospel singer. In his high school times Hill was a huge fan of Nicki Minaj and just like all of his peers he loved social media. In late 2015 he opened his first TikTok account and began promoting various kinds of videos including the ones of his singing there. In late 2018, Lil Nas X released his single titled "Old Town Road" which immediately became viral and surprisingly reached the top line of Billboard charts. Moreover, it remained there for over 9 weeks breaking a few records and becoming one of the most popular songs of the year. As of the early 2025, the song has over 600 million views. In 2019 Lil Nas X released his debut EP which has also become very popular.
