The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace said.

Her son Prince Charles, daughter-in-law Camilla, and grandson Prince William are travelling up to Balmoral to be with her.

It is understood that the Queen’s other children Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward are also going to her estate in the Scottish Highlands.

A Palace spokesperson said: ‘Following further evaluation this morning, theQueen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.

‘The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.’

Born in 1926, Queen Elizabeth II is 96, celebrating her birthday on April 21.

Recently, the Queen has had to take a step back from certain public appearances, with Prince Charles holding the State Opening of Parliament after Her Majesty was advised to forego the event by her doctor after experiencing ‘episodic mobility issues’.

How long has Queen Elizabeth II been Queen?

The Queen has been on the throne for seven decades, with 2022 marking her 70th year as monarch.

To commemorate the landmark, a special four-day Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza was held over the first weekend of June.

The Queen officially hit the landmark on February 6, 2022, and she is officially the longest-reigning monarch in British history and the second-longest serving monarch in the world.

She overtook King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand – who died in 2016 – on Monday, June 13.

She has been on the throne for 70 years and 127 days – now second only to Louis XIV of France, who became king at the age of four.

The shortest British reign is said to have been held by Lady Jane Grey, who ruled for just nine days from July 6 until July 15, 1553.

When was Queen Elizabeth II crowned?

Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne occurred on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI.

Her father was unexpectedly crowned King after his elder brother Edward VIII abdicated in 1936.

However, Her Majesty’s coronation did not take place until 16 months after her accession – as it is traditional to allow for an appropriate mourning period before such festivities can take place.

The coronation eventually took place on June 2, 1953, when over 8,000 guests attended the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Her Majesty became the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey.

Her dress, designed by British Fashion designer Norman Hartnell, was made of white satin and embroidered with delicate gold and silver thread emblems, now forms a part of the Royal Collection Trust.
