How Should You Dispose Of Ammonia?
Maybe your like

Properly disposing of ammonia involves diluting the solution with water and flushing the solution down a drain. Improperly disposing of this chemical causes ecological damage, as well as negative health effects in humans who breathe its vapors. You need to start with a safe drainage area and two containers.
- Calculate the container dilution volume
Measure how much ammonia you have in gallons or ounces. This amount must equal no more than 10 percent of the water used to dilute it. Ten gallons of ammonia requires 100 gallons of water to dilute. The first container must be large enough to hold the calculated amount of water and the added ammonia. The second container only needs to be large enough to hold the ammonia.
- Fill the containers
Using a measuring tool, pour the water into the first container. Transfer the ammonia to the second container. Measure both containers to ensure the ammonia equals 10 percent of the water.
- Combine the containers
Slowly add the contents of the second container to the first container. Never pour ammonia into water quickly, as it causes a violent chemical reaction.
- Drain the aqua ammonia
Once the solution is diluted, flush the aqua ammonia into a safe drainage or soil system. Never dispose of the solution in surface water bodies such as ditches, sanitary sewers, storm water drains, ponds, lakes, streams or wetlands.
