Batman is one of DC Comics’ most iconic and successful comic book heroes, spawning decades’ worth of television shows, movies, and even more comic books.
DC Comics has devoted countless writers and artists to expanding the Batman universe, allowing fans to get a closer look at Gotham City and its most famous residents.
This classic comic book has brought on the creation of many side characters that have become just as popular as the caped crusader himself.
How Tall Is Batman?

Batman is canonically 6’2”, but this height only pertains to Bruce Wayne as Batman.
Not even all of the actors who have taken on the role of Batman have reached his comic book canonical height.
After decades of protecting Gotham City, Wayne has not been the only person to take on the identity of the caped crusader.
A variety of characters have donned the jagged cape and cowl combination in the name of justice, such as Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Damian Wayne, Thomas Wayne, Jim Gordon, Terry McGinnis, and even Superman.
When comparing Batman to the other members of the Justice League, he’s about an inch shorter than Superman, a couple of inches taller than Wonder Woman, and noticeably shorter than Cyborg.
Batman is the median among Justice League member heights, with Cyborg being the tallest at 6’6” and the Flash being the shortest at an even 6’0”.
The only actors with canonically accurate heights to have portrayed the Dark Knight are Adam West and Will Arnett, who voices Batman in the Lego franchise films.
At 6’2”, Batman would be as tall as Michael Caine, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Smith, Chris Pratt, or Ryan Reynolds.
Batman vs. Superman actor Ben Affleck is taller than his character by an inch, putting the actor at Superman’s canonical height.
Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s Batman and Gotham’s David Mazouz are the shortest actors to have taken on the role at 5’9”.
When George Clooney took on the role of Batman for Batman & Robin in 1997, he was 5’11”.
Christian Bale took over the role of the caped crusader in 2005 with Batman Begins and is 6’0”.
The most recent actor to play Batman has been Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson, who is an inch shorter than Batman.
Is The Joker Taller Than Batman?

Yes, the Joker is taller than Batman in the main comic book universe.
This dastardly menacing clown is 6’5”, making him three inches taller than the Dark Knight.
Unlike Batman, the Joker has been seen through the decades with varying heights, and his overwhelming height seems to be a new trend.
Looking back to earlier comics, viewers can see that the Joker is noticeably shorter than Batman.
The Joker has been around since the very beginning, first appearing in Batman #1 in March of 1940 during the golden age of comic books.
At this time, the Joker’s canonical height was 6’2” to match the Dark Knight.
The Clown Prince of Crime was first introduced to silver age Batman fans in February of 1956, in Batman #97.
This villain would become DC Comics’ first antagonist to get their own ongoing comic book series.
Similar to Batman, many people have also taken on the identity of the Joker, whether it’s a true reincarnation or just another resident of Arkham Asylum heavily influenced by their memories of the real Joker’s madness.
Some of the unfortunate souls to wear the clown makeup and have their hair dyed green include John Napier, Alexander Luthor, John Kelly, John Kane, Lex Luthor, Jack Dent, Joey Wayne, Jack Schadenfreude, Joe Collins, Freddy Forbes, Sinestro, Bianca Steeplechase, Dick Grayson, Martha Wayne, and even Bruce Wayne.
This Jester of Genocide has never been portrayed by an actor of his same height, either in modern comics or the golden age series.
The shortest actor to have ever taken on the role was Zach Galifianakis, who is 5’7” when he voiced the iconic character in the Lego film series franchise.
The tallest actors to become the Joker are Tony Hale, who voiced him in Batman Ninja, and Heath Ledger.
Both actors are 6’1”.
How Tall Is The Penguin?

The Penguin is only 5’2”, but he has been reported as being as short as 4’10”.
Thanks to Danny DeVito’s perfect portrayal of the character, most fans remember Oswald Cobblepot’s height to be the same as this beloved actor.
Cobblepot’s short height and unusually long and beak-like nose are what helped him earn the alias that he once scorned.
Because of his short legs, Cobblepot has a noticeable waddle in the way he walks and scurries around the ground with small, quick steps.
Another iconic piece of the Penguin’s attire is the umbrella that he carries around with him all the time.
This habit was formed after his father caught pneumonia when getting caught in a downpour, leading to his death and the Penguin’s mother’s overly protective tendencies.
To prevent her son from falling to the same fate, Mrs. Cobblepot made her son carry an umbrella even if it was perfectly sunny.
The Penguin was driven to become an outcast, even within his high-class society, leading him to invest his time in the criminal world.
Unlike many of the other enemies that Batman must fight, the Penguin is in complete control of his actions and is simply looking to take his revenge on the city that once rejected him.
Batman first introduced the Penguin in Detective Comics #58 in December of 1941.
For as long as he has existed, Oswald Cobblepot has kept the same consistent design.
His monocle, top hat, and penguin-like tuxedo have helped cement the Penguin’s iconic place among Gotham City’s most infamous.
Thanks to his high intelligence and cooler nature, the Penguin has served as the leader of many of the criminal alliances he has been a part of.
Some of his partners in crime include Killer Croc, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Tally Man, and Black Mask.
How Tall Is Alfred Pennyworth?

Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal butler and loving caregiver of the Wayne family, is 6’0”.
This means that he’s two inches shorter than Bruce Wayne and one inch shorter than his most popular actor, Michael Caine.
Before becoming a crucial member of the Wayne family and Batman team, this young British man was known as Alfred Beagle and served in multiple branches of the British military.
During his service in the army, he worked as a field medic.
After retiring from the army, Alfred took some time to become an actor and later used his acting skills to teach secret agents how to use stagecraft to their advantage.
Alfred was pulled into the military service again, but his last mission forced him to retire and required that he take on a completely new identity.
Per his father’s wishes, Alfred moved to the United States and changed his last name from Beagle to Pennyworth before going to serve the Wayne family.
During his early years with the Waynes, Pennyworth considered moving back to England to pursue acting again.
Alfred had a change of heart when Bruce Wayne came home from school reporting that he had been bullied at school.
Alfred decided to teach young Wayne how to defeat himself against his bullies tactfully, building a bond between the pair that would last the rest of their lives.
Pennyworth knew that he had made the right choice to stay with the Waynes after the murders of Martha and Thomas Wayne.
To prevent Bruce from becoming a ward of the state and being taken away from everything he knows, Pennyworth falsified records by bribing social workers to grant him guardianship.
By becoming Bruce Wayne’s legal guardian, Alfred Pennyworth was able to save young Wayne from any additional trauma caused by Gotham’s corrupt government systems.
How Tall Is Dick Grayson?

Dick Grayson is 5’10” and was the first person to take on the role of Batman’s sidekick, Robin.
He was first introduced in Detective Comics #38 in April of 1940 and has undergone an intense transformation over the decades.
Richard John “Dick” Grayson was originally a member of a family acrobatic act known as “The Flying Graysons” alongside his parents.
This happy family came to end when mafia boss Tony Zucco murdered Grayson’s parents in front of him while attempting to extort money from the circus they worked for.
Understanding how traumatic it can be to watch your parents get murdered and then immediately be removed from everything you know, Bruce Wayne took Dick Grayson in as his legal ward.
Grayson eventually became Batman’s sidekick, and the pair became inseparable during his early teenage years.
Eventually, Grayson grew tired of living in Batman’s shadow and decided to form the Teen Titans, becoming their leader as Robin.
In Tales of the Teen Titans #44, Grayson debuted his new identity as Nightwing.
Grayson got the idea for his alias from Superman, who told him the Kryptonian folklore tale of “Nightwing and Flamebird.”
Years later, original Batgirl Bette Kane would take on the identity of Flamebird.
As Nightwing, Grayson was the leader of both the Teen Titans and the Outsiders.
Nightwing would serve as one of Gotham City’s protectors until 1996 when he decided to move to Blüdhaven, the equally troubled city next to his hometown.
After Blüdhaven was destroyed in 2009 by Deathstroke the Terminator, Nightwing moved to New York.
Grayson wouldn’t return to Gotham until the apparent death of Bruce Wayne to fill in as the new Batman.
Dick Grayson is the Robin that was in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, played by Chris O’Donnell.
He is the favorite Robin among fans.
How Tall Is Jason Todd?

Jason Todd is 6’0”, making him the tallest member of the Batman family to have ever been Robin.
Todd is best known for being the Robin with a “mean streak” and for being the most dangerous one of the bunch, even by Bruce Wayne’s standards.
Jason Todd was first introduced in Batman #357 in 1983 and became the second Robin when he was only 12 years old.
Like Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, Todd was an orphan due to the criminal world of Gotham City.
Todd’s parents were Willis Todd and Dr. Sheila Haywood, but he was forcibly separated from his mother after his father married Catherine Todd.
Willis Todd worked with Two-Face, and Catherine Todd was a drug addict who eventually passed away from an overdose.
His father was later murdered by Two-Face, forcing Jason Todd to live quietly in the apartment his father left behind in the notorious neighborhood of Crime Alley.
In order to survive, Todd was forced into the criminal world and became a master at stealing wheels off of cars.
While Batman was investigating Crime Alley, Todd stole the wheels off of the Batmobile.
Before Todd could finish the job or even notice, Batman spotted the young criminal and was immediately taken in by Bruce Wayne.
After six months of training, Jason Todd took on the role of Robin to help Batman capture Two-Face, Mime, and Deacon Blackfire.
Throughout his entire time as Robin, Todd was known to be nothing like Dick Grayson.
Jason Todd was impulsive, angry, and reckless.
While Grayson had to struggle with living in Batman’s shadow, Todd struggled with living in both Batman and Grayson’s shadows.
After seemingly being murdered by the Joker, Todd is resurrected as Red Hood.
He also serves as the arch nemesis of Dick Grayson’s Batman out of jealousy.
How Tall Is Tim Drake?

Tim Drake is somewhere between 5’6” and 5’7”, meaning that Drake is the shortest fully grown member of the Batman family to serve as the Boy Wonder.
Drake took on the role after Jason Todd’s time as Robin ended in Batman #436 in 1989.
Tim Drake was born to Jack and Janet Drake, one of the many wealthy families of Gotham City.
When he was very young, his parents took him to see “The Flying Graysons” and even saw them when Dick Grayson’s parents were murdered.
Drake discovered that Grayson was Robin after seeing a clip of Batman and Robin defeating the Penguin on television.
He recognized the acrobatic moves that Grayson used from his years in the circus, even as he used them in combat.
When he was 13 years old, Tim Drake noticed that Grayson’s replacement as Robin had gone missing and Batman seemed completely different.
Drake had pieced together that Batman was grieving the loss of his former Robin and thought that he should get Nightwing to come back as Robin.
Tim Drake finds Nightwing, but he is unable to convince him to go back into the role of Robin.
Drake offers to become the new Robin as a substitution, but Batman refuses to take on another sidekick.
Batman doesn’t change his mind until he and Nightwing are captured by Two-Face with no way of escaping, leaving Drake and Alfred Pennyworth to save the dynamic duo.
With Pennyworth’s help, Drake puts on the Robin suit and saves his heroes.
Batman agrees to have Tim Drake as Robin after copious amounts of training from everyone in the Bat-family.
During his training, the Obeah Man captures Drake’s parents, kills his mother, and leaves his father paralyzed.
After defeating Scarecrow, Drake officially became the fourth Robin.
How Tall Is Damian Wayne?

Damian Wayne is 5’4”, but he is still only in his early teens and has yet to be given a canonical height as an adult.
With his father Bruce Wayne being 6’2” and his mother Talia al Ghul being 5’8”, young Wayne has the potential to beat out Jason Todd for the title of tallest Robin.
Batman didn’t originally know about Damian Wayne’s existence due to the unique way he was conceived.
Young Wayne was the result of genetic experiments that gave him the best genetics from both of his parents.
He was then grown in an artificial womb and was later raised by Talia al Ghul and the League of Assassins, allowing Wayne to become one of the best martial artists among those who took on the role of Robin.
Damian Wayne was first introduced to his father by his mother when she had her son join him to spy on his father when he was only seven years old.
Three years later, Talia al Ghul had Bruce Wayne meet his son and then immediately left him in the billionaire’s care in an attempt to disrupt his work.
When introduced to his adoptive brothers, Damian Wayne was spoiled, mean, and aggressive.
He felt that, since he was the only “true” son of Batman, he was the only one fit to take on the role of Robin.
During the fight against Spook, Wayne stole one of Tim Drake’s Robin tunics and paired it with his League of Assassins gear.
Unlike his father, Wayne never had a problem killing someone and decapitated Spook.
Damian Wayne wouldn’t become Robin until Dick Grayson took on the role of Batman and Tim Drake became the Red Robin.
Grayson chose Wayne as his Robin because he didn’t want him to be like Jason Todd.
How Tall Are Thomas And Martha Wayne?

Thomas Wayne is between 6’1” and 6’2” and Martha Wayne is 5’4”, making them the only Batman and Joker pairing where the Joker is shorter.
The parents of Bruce Wayne take on these identities in the Flashpoint Timeline.
The Waynes were leaving a Gotham City theater when a mugger attacked them, killing Bruce Wayne.
This led Thomas Wayne to hunt down his son’s murderer and beat him to death with his bare hands.
Before Thomas Wayne left, he told his wife that she needed to move on because he missed seeing that smile of hers.
Traumatized by the actions of the mugger and her husband, Martha Wayne ends up cutting her face open into the shape of a clownish grin.
When Wayne returned, his wife showed him her new facial feature.
Thomas Wayne sends his wife to Arkham Asylum.
Martha Wayne easily escapes the outdated facility and turns to a life of crime as the Joker.
After becoming Batman, Thomas Wayne is joined by a young sidekick named Catwoman, who looks to Batman as a father figure.
Their connection makes Batman give up his murderous tendencies, but Catwoman’s time as his sidekick is cut short when the Joker shoots her and paralyzes the young thief.
Thomas Wayne returns to the Batcave to find Barry Gordon from the universe where Bruce Wayne lives.
Wayne is amazed by his son’s story and begins searching for his wife to tell her the life-changing news.
When Thomas Wayne is finally able to track down his wife, she doesn’t know how to take the fact that she would have been her son’s arch nemesis.
The news drives her to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff near Wayne Manor.
