Miura is actually very inconsistent with those heights of his characters. Let’s take a look.I’m gonna pick a couple of pages where we can actually compare the sizes of the characters to measure their height in pixels, then figure out how their height relates to the other. We can then base that off to calculate Guts’ height. I tried to find pages where the characters stood next to each other or were close to each other to make sure perspective doesn’t warp the results too much.

According to the Guidebook Casca is approx 165 cm tall, if we reverse engineer from the picture given above we get the following data:

Cascameasured 564 px => 165 cmGuts: measured 674 px => 197 cm (derived from Casca’s height)Note that he might be even taller here, given his pose there is not 100% standing upright.Now let’s compare this to the Golden Age:

Casca measured 410 px => 165 cm

Gutsmeasured 518 px => 208 cm (derived from Casca’s height)

To get another set of data with a different character, let’s compare Guts’ height to Schierke’s as well. She is 120cms tall, according to the guide book.

Schierkemeasured 244 px => 120 cmGuts measured 475 px => 233 cm (derived from Schierke’s height)233cm? That’s seems impossible. If we assume that Guts is around 200cm at max, it seems more like Schierke’s height is more around 100 to 110cm the way she is depicted, which is VERY smol. The expected height of a 13 year old is between 140cm and 170cm. In other panels of Schierke and Guts Ive checked, I even calculated a height of 248cm for Guts (lol)

Let’s take another look at this page though:

Schierkemeasured 511 px => 120 cm

Guts measured 862 px => 202 cm (derived from Schierke’s height)

This seems so much more like it.

Ergo:

1) Guts is very tall and his height must be around 200cm (6′7′′)

2) The height data you find in the guidebook is still inaccurate

3) The height data is inaccurate because the manga is not very consistent about it, either
