How tall is RuPaul — the iconic host of the popular VH1/Logo drag competition RuPaul’s Drag Race?  It can be hard to judge if he’s surrounded by tall contestants. And when he wears heels in drag, he’s much taller.

He was born RuPaul Andre Charles on November 17, 1960, in San Diego, California. At age 15, he moved to Atlanta with his mom and three sisters. There, he attended North Henry High School and studied performing arts.

From 1975 and into the early 90s, the very tall RuPaul worked as a filmmaker and musician. He worked as a backup singer and also at the Celebrity Club, singing or as a bar dancer. This was long before his turn as host of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

His big break as a drag queen came as a cameo dancing in the B52’s Love Shack video. Check the 2:05 mark to see him. In 1993, RuPaul gained even more fame with his album Supermodel of the World.

It got MTV play, ranked on the Billboard chart and earned him some talk show appearances. Then, he scored a contract with MAC cosmetics where he posed in full drag with the theme “I am the MAC girl”.

Breaking ground seemed to be RuPaul Charles’ forte. He guested on All My Children then landed his own VH1 talk show. 13 years later, RuPaul’s Drag Race premiered on Logo. In 2017, the show moved to VH1.

Fans were accustomed to seeing Ru in heels and wigs looking fab as a judge and mentor on Drag Race. But the toweringly tall RuPaul now wears drag only when he’s “being paid” to do so. He famously turned up in a suit to the Met Gala and stirred controversy.

His Husband is Even Taller

People are curious about the height of the RuPaul’s Drag Race creator. He is 6 feet 4 inches tall. That’s very tall. But his husband is even taller. He also wears a size 13 shoe in addition to being well over 6′ tall.

The Drag Race star, RuPaul Charles, married Georges LeBar in 2017.  They met in 1994 at the Limelight in New York City. Ru’s husband is Australian poet and painter, who resides in the US permanently now.

RuPaul is tall at 6’4″, but his husband towers over him. Georges is 6’8″.

So, even if Ru is in four-inch heels, he can still look eye-to-eye with his husband.

The duo married after 23 years together but maintain an open marriage. RuPaul Charles said they wanted to protect their assets if something happened to one of them because he worried about legislative changes related to gay marriage.

Does RuPaul Charles Have any Children?

Do the RuPaul’s Drag Race host and his husband share any kids? While RuPaul hasn’t made any moves to have a child, he says his husband, Georges, “loves kids”. And so Ru told The Guardian that if his husband wanted children, “I would do it”.

RuPaul also said if his husband wanted children, he’d be sure to “devote” himself to raising the child with Georges. So far, there’s no sign that they’ve had children.

But considering that RuPaul married Georges in a private ceremony and kept it secret, you never know. They might already have a child but haven’t spread the word.

Georges and his husband split their time between LA and their expansive 60,000-acre ranching in Wyoming, called LeBar Ranch. When taping RuPaul’s Drag Race, the diva needs to be in Tinseltown.

How tall is RuPaul? In bare feet, he’s 6 foot, 4 inches. In men’s shoes, he’s likely an inch taller at 6’5″. And in his highest 5-6″ drag heels, Ru is 6’9″ or taller.
