I have only ever shot iron sights in the army, so having to bore sight for a red dot scope is something I have never done. Do I need the laser attachment? What distance is a good distance to bore sight? Thanks in advance![This message has been edited by Iamsocool (edited 4/5/2012 1:40p).] Reply Quote 0 Puryear Playboy You must be a subscriber to . Take the upper off, then remove the bolt carrier group.Find a target at about 50 yards, center it in the bore as you look through the rear of the barrel and then adjust your sight until it also lines up with the same target.Re-assemble, then mag dump to confirm. Not impossible though, just harder.A laser would be best, or you could take it to the range with a couple of boxes of cheap ammo and figure out where it's shooting by picking out something on the berm and basing your adjustments on the splash with relation to your target - not the cheapest, but still effective.I'm sure you could probably take something like a little craftsman workmate and clamp up your AR in such a manner you can pull the pins and do a physical bore sight on something and get in the general range too, but I have no experience.Try to keep it at 25 yards or so. Much simpler. Reply Quote 0 Log You must be a subscriber to . Take a shot. Observe where it hits the target. Adjust RD accordingly. Reply Quote 0 aggielostinETX You must be a subscriber to . If you don't, then I fear for us all... lolI got a cheap boresighter that comes with difference sized rubber end pieces depending on the caliber. You stick it down the end of the barrel, turn it on, and then adjust your sight until it aligns perfectly with the dot. You'll be on paper for sure at 25 yards and will only need minor adjustments. Then sight in at 100 with the correct elevation. If I remember right, I shoot 2" low at 25 yards and dead on at 100. Reply Quote 0 Iamsocool You must be a subscriber to . What u spend on the laser u'll save in ammo. Reply Quote 0 Puryear Playboy You must be a subscriber to . How did the firearm world make it before the modern age? You know it's called boresighting for a reason right? Reply Quote 0 str8shot1000 You must be a subscriber to . Hits paper every time on the 1st shot. Reply Quote 0 agfan2013 You must be a subscriber to . There was a time before bore-sighting lasers? How did you ever survive? lol I used to do the whole shooting and zeroing from POI, but this takes a lot less ammo and has quicker results.Especially with .50 Beowulf, I don't want to waste more ammo than I have to haha Reply Quote 0 Mr. Dubi You must be a subscriber to . It was easy enough, and I used the Winchester ballistics calculator to determine that I should aim 1.5" low at 25 yards. Don't know when I can make it to the range to see if I can hit paper though.http://ballisticscalculator.winchester.com/ Reply Quote 0 MasterAggie You must be a subscriber to . I have a browning bore sight tool that you just stick to the end of the barrel and as odd as it sounds you get the same picture no matter if the thing is upright or not. Went to the range and it was about 4 inches high and 2 to the left. Adjusted from there. But playboy and log's methods are probably the best ideas. And don't cost extra. I think mine has been used a couple dozen times--on my rifles (sometimes a couple times when changing optics) and on a few friends rifles.
