Determining the sex of your Leopard Gecko Female 6.JPG Male 7.jpg Leopard Geckos must be mature before breeding can start. Males must be over a year old and weigh 45 grams or more. Females must be more than 1.5 years old and weigh 45-50 grams or more. They must be kept separate. Temperature Cycle of Leopard Geckos To stimulate breeding leopard geckos must go through a cycling period. Make sure that the geckos are in good health and are well fed before the winter cycle are started. Depending on country, breeding season are between February and April.
  • Temperature cycling is from early December to mid-January (1 and a 1/2 months).
  • Two weeks before cycle lower the temperature to 18-20˚C / 64 - 68 F (for different morphs).
  • One week before cycle avoid feeding.
  • Clean water must always be available.
How to end the Temperature Cycle of Leopard Geckos Ending the cycle must be done gradually over a course of 2 weeks while the geckos are seperated. First increase the temperature gradually and then start offering food. Mating After the geckos are 100% out of the temperature cycle and are eating well you can place the male with several females. The male will stalk the female and vibrate his tail while scent marking. If the female are ready for copulation she will tilt her tail and accept the male. 1.JPG Mating can last for 2-3 days, thereafter the female will reject the male and may bite him. Remove the male at this time. The female will eat well and every day. Once the female refuse to eat she must be moved to a separate container with a nest that contains moist vermiculite. If there is only one female then the nest can be placed in her cage. 2.JPG 3.JPG Gravid Female with 2 eggs. 5.jpg 121015 Egg-laying occurs in about 2-3 weeks after mating. 4.JPG After the female laid the eggs the nest can be removed. Feed the female crickets with added calcium. If the female is in a good condition the male can be placed back into her enclosure to copulate again. On average the female will lay 7 to 8 pairs of eggs during the breeding season regardless of how many times she was with a male, she is able to store the sperm. Incubating the eggs. Place the eggs in the incubator. 8.JPG Incubation on average lasts 40 days but may take longer. Leopard Gecko sex are temperature determined
  • Male - 29-31˚C / 84 - 88F
  • Female - 27-28˚C / 80 - 82F
  • Temperatures above 31˚C / 88F are not recommended.

Looking for help with leopard gecko breeding

Hi! So Lea’s getting big and I was hoping to breed either her or Lenetta. A friend of mine got a male and is okay with doing a breeding project, and so I am hoping to do that, but I had a few questions: 1). What time of year is best? I know that their breeding season is January to September... www.ourreptileforum.com www.ourreptileforum.com You must log in or register to reply here.
