How to Burn Incense

Burning incense is a practice that has been around for centuries, and it's still enjoyed by many people today. Whether you use incense to create a calming atmosphere, to cover up unpleasant odors, or to aid in meditation and relaxation, it's important to know how to burn it safely and effectively.

To start, you'll need a few basic supplies: incense sticks or cones, an incense holder or burner, and a lighter or match. It's important to use a proper incense holder or burner to prevent fire hazards and ensure that the ash falls onto a heat-proof surface.

To burn incense sticks, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a safe and well-ventilated area to burn your incense. Make sure there are no flammable materials nearby and that the area is free of drafts that could blow the smoke around.

  2. Insert the incense stick into the holder or burner, making sure it's secure and upright. If you're using a stick that's longer than your holder, you can break off the end to fit it properly.

  3. Light the tip of the incense stick with a match or lighter. Hold the flame to the tip for a few seconds, then blow it out gently to let the stick smolder.

  4. Let the incense stick burn for a few seconds until the tip starts to glow, then blow out the flame. You should see smoke rising from the stick.

  5. If the incense stick goes out, you can relight it by repeating the process. Make sure to blow out the flame after the tip starts to glow.

  6. When you're done using the incense, make sure to extinguish it completely by either blowing it out or placing it in water. Don't leave a burning incense stick unattended.

To burn incense cones, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a safe and well-ventilated area to burn your incense. Make sure there are no flammable materials nearby and that the area is free of drafts that could blow the smoke around.

  2. Place the incense cone in the holder or burner, making sure it's secure and upright. Some burners may require you to add a little bit of sand or ash to help keep the cone in place.

  3. Light the tip of the incense cone with a match or lighter. Hold the flame to the tip for a few seconds, then blow it out gently to let the cone smolder.

  4. Let the incense cone burn for a few seconds until it starts to glow and produce smoke.

  5. If the incense cone goes out, you can relight it by repeating the process. Make sure to blow out the flame after the tip starts to glow.

  6. When you're done using the incense, make sure to extinguish it completely by either blowing it out or placing it in water. Don't leave a burning incense cone unattended.

It's important to note that burning incense can cause headaches or migraines in some people. If you experience any discomfort, stop using incense and seek medical advice if necessary. Additionally, if you have respiratory problems or are asthmatic, it's a good idea to seek medical advice before using incense.

Burning incense can be a wonderful way to enhance the atmosphere in your home and promote relaxation and meditation. By following these simple steps and using common sense, you can safely and effectively burn incense sticks and cones to enjoy their beautiful scents and benefits.

These are good quality and well made, but I find the scents are not very close to the original. I have some real sage here and it smells totally different to the sage incense. I use another brand (Organic Goodness) which I much prefer the scent of. They burn well as expected.

Hi Cameron,
