How to buy CATL (300750.SZ) ?

Does anyone know how to buy shares of Contemporary Amperex Technologies (300750.SZ)? I tried both one big HK bank as well as IBKR, and although I can search etc, I can't submit a buy order (getting an error). Any idea?

Was the bank HSBC? I did not know I needed to pre-apply for China-A Shares.... else would have gotten you an answer if it worked on HSBC or not.

It was indeed HSBC. They replied certain shares are reserved for 'institutional investors', not retail ones. Similar answer from IBKR (although they claim certain markets access altogether e.g. CHINEXT are not for retail investors). Hence my question if you know of a broker who'll let me do that, or if it's a hard rule (and from where?)

I tried to buy BGI a few years back, filled in all the forms at SCB for stock connect, pre-exchanged HKD to CNH and called the broker. Got the same answer, stocks starting with 300*** in stock code reserved for institutional investors, I was furious, had to pay the exchange fee twice. Even more furious now when the stock has trippled.. F*king joke of a service to only open the stock connect to inst investors.

Yes, stock connect is for institutional investors only. Investing in China A market is reserved for the big boys as well. There are CSI 300 index trackers listed in HK which you can consider. Alternatively, open an account with a HK local brokerage house. I have a feeling they may be able to do something given a certain size.

It’s fascinating to see that some are willing to invest in a financial market without a basic understanding of the regulations and limitations.

It's not about regulations or knowledge about the market, its how the bank is willing to qualify me as an investor. If I have more money, I will be a professional institutional investor. Just like Mainland investors need 500k RMB to qualify for southbound investing.
