In this article, we’ll teach you how to cancel a ride you’ve ordered through the Uber app without getting charged a fee, including rides before and after they’ve been matched with a driver (and rides you’ve scheduled in advance). Read on for a complete and detailed guide to managing the cancellation of your Uber rides!

Changing or Canceling Your Uber Ride

To cancel an Uber ride request, tap the 3-dot button next to Ride details and select Cancel ride from the bottom of the menu. Then, select Yes, cancel to confirm. Canceling a Ride Before a Driver Match

1. 1 Tap the 3-dot button next to “Ride details.” From the Uber app, locate the 3-dot button; it’ll be on the right side of a box labeled Ride details. Selecting this button will open up a new menu with your full ride details.[1]
   • You can cancel an Uber request before or after getting a match—even if the driver is en route to your location.
   • However, the sooner you send the cancellation request, the less likely you’ll get a cancellation fee.
2. 2 Select Cancel ride from the Ride details menu. You’ll see this option near the bottom of the Ride details menu. The Cancel ride button is grey with a red font, just above a black button that says Close. Advertisement
3. 3 Choose your reason for canceling the request. After selecting Cancel ride, you’ll see a list of reasons for canceling. This step is optional—but if you don’t mind sharing, choose an option explaining why you want to cancel the ride.
4. 4 Select Yes, cancel to finalize the cancellation. Your ride will be canceled immediately, and you won’t be charged a cancellation fee since no driver was assigned to your request yet. It’s as simple as that![2]
   • Alternatively, if you reconsider, you can select No (next to the Yes, cancel button) to keep your ride.

1. 1 Tap the 3-dot button next to “Ride details.” After getting assigned a driver, you’ll see the driver’s name, car type, Uber rating, and license plate number below a box labeled Ride details. In the box, you’ll see a box with three dots to the far right; select that 3-dot button to open up your full ride details.
2. 2 Select Cancel ride from the Ride details menu. This option is the second-to-last, near the bottom of the Ride details menu. It’s a grey button with Cancel ride in a bold red font. Tapping this option will bring you to the next stage of cancellation!
3. 3 Select a reason for canceling your request. Next, you’ll see a list of reasons for canceling, including options like ordering the ride by mistake or picking the wrong ride type. This step is optional—but if you don’t mind sharing, choose an option explaining why you want to cancel the ride.
4. 4 Tap Yes, cancel to confirm the cancellation. This will cancel your ride immediately. You may be charged a cancellation fee depending on how long after being matched with a driver you cancel the request. Uber cancellation fees vary by location and how busy the app is at the time—but the app will always show you the fee before you confirm the cancellation.[3]
   • Generally, you can avoid cancellation fees by canceling within 2 minutes of ordering the ride (or sometimes more, up to 5 minutes).
   • Additionally, if your driver is over 5 minutes late, you can cancel your ride for free.
   • If you’re canceling an Uber Share ride, you can only cancel a request without getting a fee for the first 2 minutes after a driver accepts it.[4]

Canceling a Scheduled Ride

1. 1 Tap on “Activity” in the Uber app. Open your Uber app (if you haven’t already) and look for the tabs at the bottom of your screen. The Activity tab should be the third from the left, between Services and Account.[5]
2. 2 Select the upcoming scheduled ride you want to cancel. On the Activity tab, you’ll see a section labeled Upcoming with any scheduled rides listed below. To proceed, tap on the ride you want to cancel.[6]
   • If you have multiple trips scheduled, scroll until you find the one you want to cancel.
   • The section below Upcoming is Past, summarizing your past Uber rides.
3. 3 Tap “Cancel” at the bottom of the page. When you select your scheduled ride, you’ll see a heading labeled Reservation details, followed by your route and payment method. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where there should be a Cancel button with a red font, and select it.[7]
   • Alternatively, if you want to change the ride, tap the Edit button next to the scheduled time or your payment method.
4. 4 Choose “Cancel reservation” to confirm the cancellation. After tapping Cancel, you’ll see another page pop up asking if you’re sure you want to cancel. If you want to proceed, tap Cancel reservation, and your scheduled ride will be fully canceled.[8]
   • You will not be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel before any driver accepts your ride.

1. Cancellation fees are usually around $5 to $10. Again, cancellation fees are dependent on the ride itself and how long after requesting it you try to cancel. Typically, cancellation fees cost at least $5 and can cost as much as $10, with fees getting higher the later you request the cancellation.[9]
