How to cast off from the right side

Casting off stitches from the right side while knitting stockingnett stitch. For example for armholes, necklines and shoulders. It`s important that the cast off edge is not to loose or too tight. You can also use thicker needles when casting off to make sure the cast off edge is elastic.

Fig. 1: Knit 2 stitches.

Fig. 2: You have 2 stitches on right hand needle.

Fig. 3: Insert left hand needle in the stitch on the far right on the right hand needle.

Fig. 4: Lift this stitch over the other stitch (first stitch on the needle).

Fig. 5: Now there is only 1 stitch on the right hand needle.

Fig. 6: Knit one more stitch and insert left needle in the far right stitch again.

Fig. 7: Lift this stitch over the other stitch. Continue like this until you have cast off all the stitches you needed to cast off. Whenever you want you can continue knitting over the remaining stitches on the left hand needle. Or continue casting off like this over all stitches.

Fig. 8: You have 1 stitch on right hand needle, this is the last stitch in your work.

Fig. 9: Cut the yarn and insert the yarn end through the loop (= the last stitch). You can now fasten off.

You can use this technic when you are done with your work for example when making a shawl and you need to cast off from the right side.

Pourriez-vous me conseiller? Merci d’avance.

25.07.2023 - 11:55

DROPS Design answered:

Please can you explain more clearly? "When the piece measures 24-25-26-27-28-29 cm, cast off for the armholes at the beginning of every row on each side as follows: 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-1-2 times, 2 stitches 0-1-2-2-3-3 times and 1 stitch 5-4-3-5-6-5 times = 36-38-40-42-44-48 stitches"

12.12.2022 - 18:19

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs DeWitt, you will cast off at the beginning of every row on each side, ie both from RS and from WS so that armholes are the same: cast off 3 sts at the beg of next 2-2-2-2-2-4 rows (= 1-1-1-1-1-2 times on each side), then 2 sts at the beg of next 0-2-4-4-6-6 rows ( 0-1-2-2-3-3 times on each side - no cast off in first size, go to next cast off), 1 stitch at the beg of next 10-8-6-10-12-10 rows (= 5-4-3-5-6-5 times on each side). Happy knitting!

Also muss ich 8 x 1 Masche überziehen???

04.02.2021 - 20:36

DROPS Design answered:
