1. Accept the Legendary Fish Quest

First things first, head to Gill Landing. It's part of The Heartlands, southeast of Flatneck Station, on the north coast of Flat Iron Lake. Go out onto the dock there and talk to Jeremy Gill to accept his quest - A Fisher of Fish.

He gives you map marking all 13 Legendary Fish. You must catch these fish and deliver them to him to complete this Stranger Quest.

2. Get the Right Bait

As detailed on the How to Fish page, you can buy various types of bait at the Bait Shop in Lagras. However, you'll unlock additional bait after accepting A Fisher of Fish.

To catch Legendary Fish, you need to buy the three different lures:

  • Special Lake Lure
  • Special River Lure
  • Special Swamp Lure

Here is what each of the lures is good for catching in RDR2.

Special Lake Lure

  • Legendary Bluegill: The Legendary Bluegill can be found south of Clemens Point off the shore of Flat Iron Lake. You will discover it if you accept Kieran's offer to go fishing during Chapter 3.
  • Legendary Largemouth Bass: You can fish for this Legendary Bass southeast of Lake Don Julio, on the shore of the San Luis River in New Austin.
  • Legendary Perch: You'll find the Legendary Perch swimming in Elysian Lake, southwest of Annesburg in the Roanoke Ridge region of New Hanover.
  • Legendary Redfin Pickerel: You can fish for the Legendary Redfin in the largest pool of Stillwater Creek, between Thieve's Landing and MacFarlane's Ranch in New Austin.
  • Legendary Rock Bass: You'll find this Legendary Bass in the Aurora Basin, at the head of the Lower Montana River to the west of Manzanita Trading Post in the Tall Trees region of West Elizabeth.
  • Legendary Smallmouth Bass: You can catch this Legendary Bass in Lake Owanjila, to the west of Strawberry, between the Big Valley and Tall Trees regions of West Elizabeth.
  • Legendary Sockeye Salmon: The Legendary Salmon swims in the cold waters of Lake Isabella, far to the northwest of Valentine in the Grizzlies West region of Ambarino.

Special River Lure

  • Legendary Bullhead Catfish: The Legendary Catfish can be fished in the creek deltas to the west of Sisika Penitentiary on Sisika Island.
  • Legendary Chain Pickerel: To catch the Legendary Chain Pickerel, fish along the Dakota, which runs northwest of Flatneck Station.
  • Legendary Large Sturgeon: Fish for this Legendary Sturgeon off the railroad bridge over the mouth of the Lannahechee River (or rowing out a boat), between Saint Denis and Rhodes in the southern part of Lemoyne.
  • Legendary Muskie: To catch the muskie, head to the lighthouse at the south end of the Van Horn Trading Post in New Hanover.
  • Legendary Steelhead Trout: The Legendary Trout can be found in the basin far north of Annesburg, in the northeast corner of New Hanover, up the Kamassa River from Brandywine Drop.

3. Find a Legendary Fish

If you look at the Legendary Fish map that you acquired from Jeremy Gill, you'll find that all of these fish will be marked on your map as you get close to their location. Check out the comparison between your world map and the paper map to find them. Or, you can click on the individual fish pages to see where to find their location.

4. Catch the Fish

Once you're in the right place, use the lure we suggested above. The Legendary Fish in that area should be the first to bite. It will be a hard battle.

Check out our how to fish guide for tips on how to nab the Legendary Fish.

5. Deliver the Fish

Once you've caught a Legendary Fish, store it on your horse and immediately head to the nearest post office. Keeping the catch on your horse, you can mail it to Jeremy Gill. After 24 hours, you'll receive your reward for your fish.

Make sure to be incredibly careful when transporting the fish. If it falls off your horse after a tumble, you'll probably have to reload your save to get it back.

Once you've delivered every fish, you can finally hunt the Legendary Catfish with Jeremy Gill.
