How to change a motorcycle battery step by step?

Steps to replace the motorcycle battery:

  • Ensure that the battery needs replacement- First, you should ensure that the battery needs replacement. If jumpstarting your battery does not help, or your batter continues to drain regularly, you should surely replace your battery.
  • Identify the battery you need to buy- You can open your bike to check the battery specifications, or you can alternatively check the service manual to identify the battery specifications. In the digital age, you can google your motorcycle model to get the battery specifications.

  • Locate the battery on the bike- If you are an enthusiast, you already know the answer to this question. Else, you can check your bike manual or do a google search. Usually, on most bikes, the battery is under the seat.
  • Remove the battery- Before starting, ensure that the battery is cold. Next, you should start by removing the ‘-‘ terminal first. You can use a screwdriver to remove the nuts and bolts and also remove any straps that might be there to protect the battery. Remove each screw one by one to avoid accidentally dropping the screws into an unreachable area.

  • Place the new battery- After you remove the battery, you can place the new battery in place. This time, you need to first insert the positive terminal. You should work in exactly the opposite chronology of removing a battery. If you have removed any straps, ensure that the straps are tightened properly. Check by moving the battery if it is firmly in place.

  • Testing the battery- When you have installed the battery, ensure that the seat is closed. Start the ignition and check if the battery is working properly. If there are any issues, you should immediately take the bike to a mechanic.
