Apple loves making setup of its products (like the iPhone 13) as quick and seamless as possible. That means that when a shopper picks up a new set of AirPods and connects them to their phone or computer for the first time, there isn’t really much to do at all. The process is so quick, that users who might want to do a bit of customization actually may be confused about how to circle back and update the name of their new device.

Luckly, changing the name of Apple AirPods or AirPod Pros is actually incredibly easy. The task only takes a few seconds, assuming the AirPods are already in sync with the owner’s iPhone and both devices are already in range of each other and charged. Wear the AirPods, unlock the iPhone, and start thinking of a new name for your device while following the steps outlined below...

Before getting started, make sure both the AirPods and the iPhone being used have a charge. Completing the name change process does require both the headphones and the phone to be turned on and connected to each other, so either device being dead is a dealbreaker.

How To Change AirPods Name

• Wear your AirPods and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone.
• On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
• In the list of devices, tap the Actions Available button next to your AirPods, then tap the current name.
• Enter a new name, then tap Done.

That’s all there is to it! Once users arrive at the current name screen they can just click ‘X’ to clear out the default “[User name]’s AirPod Pros” and enter whatever name they would like the device to have. It may be tempting to get goofy or weird with the naming, but keep in mind that you’ll want to easily be able to identify the device from your bluetooth settings going forward, so just make sure it is something memorable and clear.
