Want to change the name your iPhone broadcasts when it's discoverable with Bluetooth? If you'd rather people not see a name like "Johnny's iPhone" when scanning for Bluetooth devices, it's easy to rename your iPhone. You can also rename other Bluetooth devices, like speakers and headphones, to make them more recognizable. We'll show you how!

Changing Your iPhone's Name

1. 1 Open your iPhone's Settings . It's the gray gear icon on your home screen or in your App Library.
2. 2 Tap General. You'll see it in the third group of settings. Advertisement

4. 4 Tap Name. You'll find this at the top of the menu.
5. 5 Type a new name for your iPhone. The name you type here is how your iPhone will appear as a Bluetooth device. This also changes the name you'll see when you connect your iPhone to a computer, in iCloud, as a personal hotspot, and when using AirDrop.[1]
6. 6 Tap Done. It's the blue button at the bottom-right corner of the keyboard. The new name will take effect immediately, although you may have to refresh your other devices to see it. Advertisement

Changing Other Bluetooth Device Names

1. 1 Connect to the Bluetooth device whose name you want to change. You can only change the name of a Bluetooth device while you're actively connected.
2. 2 Open your iPhone's Settings . It's the gray gear icon on your home screen or in your App Library.
3. 3 Tap Bluetooth. It's in the first group of settings.
4. 4 Tap the small "i" in a circle next to the device's name. It'll be to the right of its current name.
5. 5 Tap Name. This opens a typing area.
6. 6 Type a new name for the device. If you're struggling to remember which device is which, you can enter a descriptive name here, such as "Work headphones" or "Kitchen speaker."
7. 7 Tap Done. It's the blue button at the bottom-right corner of the keyboard. Now you'll see the device's new name when it's time to pair.
   • This only changes the device's name on your iPhone—other devices that connect to it will still see the same name.
