This wikiHow teaches you how to hide or alter the phone number that other phone users see when you call them from your Android. If your carrier permits it, you can hide your number from within your Android's call settings. If not, you can download and use a caller ID-changing app called Dingtone for free from the Google Play Store.
Steps
Method 1 Method 1 of 2:Using Android Settings
-
1 Open your Android's Phone app. Tap the Phone app icon, which resembles a white landline receiver on a green or blue background. - Not all carriers support hiding your caller ID from within settings. If this method doesn't work, try a different method listed in this article.
-
2 Tap MORE or ⋮. It's in the top-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear. Advertisement -
3 Tap Settings. This option is in the drop-down menu. Doing so opens the caller settings.[1] - On some Samsung phones, you'll need to tap Call before continuing.
-
4 Scroll down and tap More settings. You'll find this near the bottom of the page. -
5 Tap Show my caller ID. It's near the top of the page. Doing so prompts a pop-up menu or a drop-down menu. -
6 Tap Hide number. This option is in the menu. Doing so will hide your caller ID as long as your carrier and/or region permits it. - If you don't see this option, your carrier doesn't support caller ID-masking. You can call your carrier to try to request this feature, since most Android phones support caller ID-masking in and of themselves, but it will likely cost a fee.
Using Dingtone
-
1 Download Dingtone. Dingtone is a free app in the Google Play Store, though the downside to Dingtone is that you will need to pay for more call time when you run out. It comes with 15 credits' worth of call time. To download it: - Open the Google Play Store
- Tap the search bar
- Type in "dingtone".
- Tap Dingtone
- Tap INSTALL
- Tap ACCEPT when prompted.
- Tap OPEN when it appears.
- Open the Google Play Store
-
2 Tap Sign Up. You'll see this blue button at the bottom of the screen. -
3 Enter your phone number. Tap the "Tap to enter your phone number" field, then type in your current phone number. -
4 Tap Continue. It's in the top-right corner of the screen. -
5 Tap OK when prompted. Dingtone will send a text with a verification code to your provided number. -
6 Open your Android's Messages app. Make sure you don't force-close the Dingtone app when you do this. -
7 Open the text from Dingtone. Tap the message from Dingtone that begins with "Your Dingtone access code:". -
8 Note the verification number. The four-digit number in the text message is the code you'll need to use to verify your number and create your Dingtone account. -
9 Go back to Dingtone and enter the verification number. Tap the left-most box at the top of the screen, then type in the number. -
10 Tap Continue. It's in the top-right corner of the screen. -
11 Enter a name, then tap Continue. Type the name you want to use into the text field near the top of the screen. -
12 Tap Get a FREE phone number when prompted. It will appear in a pop-up menu. -
13 Enter an area code, then tap Search. Do this at the top of the screen. The area code you enter should be from the city or region that you want your phone number to use. -
14 Select a number, then tap Continue. This will set the new number as your Dingtone caller ID. -
15 Tap Finish, then tap Make Call. Doing so takes you to an infographic page in Dingtone. -
16 Swipe from right to left, then tap Make a call now!. This will open the Dingtone caller app. -
17 Make a call. Enter the phone number you want to call, then press the green phone button to make a call. This will use your Dingtone phone number rather than your own. - You can also hide your number by tapping More in the bottom-right corner of the screen, tapping Settings, tapping Call Settings, and tapping the grey Anonymous Call switch.
