Carpet cleaning: Easy hack to get rid of stubborn stains
If you don’t have a carpet cleaner at home, there are plenty of things you can use instead that you probably have already.
Baking soda absorbs bad smells, dust, and dirt, so you can sprinkle it all over your carpet.
Let it sit for at least half an hour and then hoover the baking soda up to reveal a clean carpet.
You should use baking soda on your carpet at least once a week.
In areas that you walk over more such as the hallway, you may need to do this twice a week.

If baking soda doesn’t do the trick, go in with some undiluted lemon juice.
Lemon juice is corrosive so will eat away at stubborn dirt or stains.
Apply the juice to the carpet and leave it for up to two hour.
Use a damp sponge to wash it off, and then let the carpet dry.
Alternatively, you can rent a carpet cleaner or even buy your own to save yourself from these steps.

How to clean a stained toilet
Ammonia will get rid of most stains if you mix about 10ml of the stuff with a teaspoon of washing powder and 500ml of water.
Apply this mixture to the stain and gently rub it with a soft brush before wiping it with a dry cloth.
However, when treating stains, you’ll need to choose your product based on the individual stains.
One of the most common stains is a coffee or tea stain.
Wet a cloth with white vinegar and dampen the stain, then leave it overnight and wash it off with soapy water.
Blood stains and wax stains, on the other hand, only need water.
Instead, you could use a carpet shampoo and blot and scrape away the stains this way.
Be gentle and only use lukewarm water, hot water will only make it worse!

About twice a year you need to do a deep clean on your carpet.
This will be easier if you treat stains as soon as they happen and hoover your carpet once a week.
Mix two tablespoons of ammonia, lemon juice OR white vinegar with a litre of water and use a soft carpet brush or hairbrush to apply it on the carpet.
Put in some elbow grease and give the carpet a good scrap.
Then, wipe the carpet with a damp cloth and let it dry.
Make sure you ventilate the room after using ammonia.
Alternatively, hire a professional carpet cleaner to come and do it for you.
