Doesn’t it feel good when your car is all cleaned up and shiny? A well-kept car drives great on the road, but it’s not just the exterior that’s important. The car’s mechanical part, especially the engine, becomes easily soiled with dirt and grease. A greasy engine can affect the overall functionality of your vehicle.
Cleaning an engine might sound challenging, but we assure you following these easy steps will get your job done quickly and efficiently.
Things you will need
Water
WD-40® Multi Use Product
Plastic Bags
Small Brush
Screw Driver
Soft Cloth
Step 1
Pre-degreasing and diconnecting the battery
Before you degrease your engine, it’s always essential to prepare it first. You can do that by doing a pre-degreasing cleaning. Open the bonnet and clean the engine with a soft cloth. This will ensure some debris is removed from the engine bay, electric wires etc.
Don’t forget to disconnect the battery and cover all electrical components with a plastic bag, so you don’t short the circuit. If there is an exposed engine air intake, cover that as well with the plastic bag.
Step 2
Run the engine
Before you start to wash the greasy engine, run it for 5-10 minutes. This is a crucial step because it’s much easier to remove the grease when the engine is heated.
Step 3
Spray WD-40 multi use product
Now, it’s time to degrease the engine. Use WD-40 and spray the entire greasy engine compartment with it. Remove the grease and grime with water and rinse it off. Depending on how dirty your engine is, you can also use a small brush to remove the grease for the hard-to-reach parts.
Step 4
Let the engine dry
It’s time to allow the engine to dry until all the humidity has evaporated. You can also turn on the car to create heat, which will speed up the process. This is the easiest way of drying your engine bay.
Step 5
Connect the battery
Last but not least, remove all the plastic bags from the electrical components and connect your battery and voila- your gleaming engine is in perfect health.
Here's how WD-40 can help degrease your engine
We usually ignore the issues that are internal to the car. The parts like the engine, battery, suspension, etc need to be serviced and cleaned as frequently as the external parts of the car. This will not only help you achieve a better lifetime value from the car but also give you a smoother and safer drive. Timely maintenance also helps in saving costs as it avoids unnecessary expenditure on internal parts.Disclaimer
