How to Clean Travertine Pavers

General Guidelines for Cleaning Travertine Pavers

Travertine pavers can typically be cleaned using a soft fiber brush, mild soap or detergent, and water. Routine cleaning like this may help maintain the stone’s natural appearance over time.

For deeper cleaning, some professionals use a light spray from a pressure washer. However, excessive pressure or close-range spraying may affect the surface of the stone or strip away sealant. In such cases, resealing the travertine may be necessary.

For stains such as wine or other organic materials, a poultice powder may be used to draw out discoloration. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and always test in a small area first.

There are also cleaners on the market formulated specifically for use with travertine and other natural stones. One example is:

  • DuPont™ StoneTech® Professional Revitalizer Cleaner and ProtectorAvailable here

Before using any cleaning product, confirm that it is safe for natural stone and follow all usage directions.
