The command prompt is a keyboard-based feature built in to the Windows operating system. The program has a long list of uses, like modifying network profiles or writing batch files that modify how other programs will run. After working with the command prompt for a while in a single session, the command prompt window can become cluttered, so it is important to know how to clear the screen.

Step 1

Move the mouse cursor to the top right corner of the Windows screen and drag it down. Click "Search."

Type "cmd" in the Search field and select "Command Prompt." The command prompt window opens

Type any standard commands into the blank window.

Type "cls" and then press the "Enter" key. This is the clear command and, when it is entered, all of your previous commands in the window are cleared.
