How To Connect Firestick To WiFi Without Remote
Maybe your like
Recently, I was traveling, and I was not sure whether my hotel room will have a smart TV or not, so I decided to take my Fire TV stick along.
Unfortunately, I left my remote at home.
Since the TV stick connects to the last connected Wi-Fi Network, it did not connect to the Wi-Fi available in the hotel.
I was unsure what to do, so I hopped onto the Internet to search for possible ways of connecting a Fire TV stick to Wi-Fi without its remote.
Since I already had a remote, I wasn’t really looking to spend money on a universal remote.
Nevertheless, you can easily connect your Fire TV stick to Wi-Fi even if you don’t have a compatible remote.
I have listed some of the most commonly used methods of connecting a Firestick to Wi-Fi without a remote in this article to help you save time and effort.
To connect a Firestick to WiFi without remote, you can use the Fire TV App on another mobile phone, use an HDMI-CEC Remote, or connect it to the Internet using Echo or Echo Dot.
Why Would You Need to Connect Firestick Without a Remote?

A firestick connects to the last Wi-Fi connection it was connected to automatically.
Suppose you have changed the password of your Wi-Fi connection, moved places, or are traveling.
In that case, the device will not pick up on the internet connection and will not function properly.
To connect it to the Internet, you have to select the respective Wi-Fi connection from the settings and add the password.
However, suppose your remote is not working, or you have misplaced the remote.
In that case, you will have to resort to other methods of connecting the device to Wi-Fi.
In my case, I was traveling and had left my Firestick remote at home, so I had to connect it to the Internet without the remote.
Use an HDMI-CEC Remote

You can use an HDMI-CEC remote to control your Firestick.
CEC stands for Consumer Electronics Control, and a CEC remote is considered a universal remote of a sort.
These remotes are usually used for HDMI-supported devices.
Since the Fire TV stick connects to the TV using an HDMI, it is an HDMI-supported device and can be controlled using an HDMI-CEC.
However, this method will only work if you have already enabled CEC support on your device.
If you have not, you might have to use another method.
HDMI CEC remotes are inexpensive and are easily available at all consumer electronic shops.
In some cases, hotel rooms also provide HDMI CEC with their TVs.
To enable the HDMI CEC settings, follow these steps:
- Open the Home screen on Firestick.
- Go to Settings.
- Open the Display & Sounds section.
- In the menu, scroll to HDMI CEC Device Control and press the center button.
- When prompted for confirmation, select Yes.
Once the setting is enabled, you will be able to use any HDMI CEC or universal remote with the Firestick.
In addition, you can connect it to Wi-Fi using the remote from the settings.
Using Fire TV App on Another Mobile

If you don’t have access to a universal or HDMI CEC remote, you can try to connect your Firestick to Wi-Fi using the Fire TV app.
Amazon’s Fire TV app is very convenient and easy to use.
However, Amazon’s terms and conditions state that you can only connect Firestick to Wi-Fi and not to the Internet on your smartphone.
Thus, for this method to work, you need two devices.
It can be two smartphones, two tablets, or one smartphone and one tablet.
To connect your Firestick to Wi-Fi using this method, follow these steps:
- Install the Fire TV app on one of the devices.
- Configure hotspot on the other device with SSID and password similar to your home network.
- Connect the Firestick to the hotspot.
- Ensure the device with Fire TV App is connected to the hotspot as well.
- Once both the connections are complete, you will be able to use the Fire TV app to control the Firestick.
- Using the app, scroll to the settings and connect the device to the new Wi-Fi.
As soon as it connects to the new network, you can deactivate the hotspot or reconfigure it.
Connect Firestick to Wi-Fi Using Echo or Echo Dot

Another possibility is to connect your Firestick to Wi-Fi using Echo or Echo Dot.
You can use an Echo or Echo Dot instead of a second smartphone or a tablet.
Once you have modified the initial configuration of the network using a tablet or smartphone, you can use Echo or Echo Dot to connect it to the new network using voice commands.
Once you have connected the system to the new Wi-Fi, you can also use either of the devices to browse and stream media using voice commands.
Using Replacement/Universal Remotes
If none of these work for you, it is best to invest in a universal remote for the Fire TV Stick or a replacement remote for the Fire Stick.
The remote will not set you back a lot in terms of money.
If you are not interested in purchasing one online, many consumer electronics stores stock the original Fire TV Stick remote.
Moreover, newer and modern remotes also come with added features like Voice Command, a volume button that was missing in a few remotes, and better functionality.
If you’ve got a new Fire Stick Remote, you’ll have to pair it without the old one.
Firestick WiFi Connectivity Without Remote
The Fire TV stick does not come with any buttons.
Hence you cannot use the device itself to navigate through the interface.
Instead, you will almost always need a remote device to scroll through the applications and browse different apps.
Hence, if you have misplaced or broken the Fire TV stick remote, it is best to invest in a new one.
You can either buy the original Fire TV remote or a universal remote.
In addition to this, if you have a MI Remote or the Mi Remote App, you can use that to control your Fire TV stick.
Xiaomi users get the Mi Remote application by default on their smartphones.
This app works in combination with the IR blaster on the phone, which you can use to control the Fire TV Stick.
